NE10 All-Conference Honors Spotlight Eight Members of Women’s Soccer
MANSFIELD, Mass. (11/13/14) - The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team has earned eight spots on the Northeast-10 All-Conference Team this season, with five on first team, one on the second team, two on the third team and on the All-Rookie team. The Ravens also had one major award winner.
Graduate defender Aino Martikainen (Järvenpää, Finland) was named NE10 Defensive Player of the Year. Martikainen started all 18 games for the Ravens. Martikainen helped limit opponents to just 10 goals in 18 games, contributing to 11 shutouts this season. Martikainen was also named to the NE10 All-Conference First Team. This marks her third First Team all-conference recognition and her second Defensive Player of the Year award.
Junior Claudia Peirce (Carver, Mass.) recorded 11 goals and seven assists so far this season, earning NE10 All-Conference First Team honors at forward. Peirce took 65 shots for the Ravens on the year, placing 33 on goal. The Carver, Massachusetts native started all 18 games for Franklin Pierce. Peirce currently leads the NE10 with 11 goals.
Joining Martikainen and Peirce on All-NE10 First Team is graduate transfer Olivia Kudrikow (Plymouth, Mass.). Kudrikow recorded six goals and one assist during the season, including two game-winning goals on the road. Kudrikow made 9 starts and played in all 18 games for the Ravens.
Also on NE10 All-Conference First Team is midfielder Jenni Huttunen (Suomi, Finland). The Finnish native earns her second All-NE10 award after coming away with seven goals and four assists on the season, including four game-winning goals. Huttunen saw action in 14 games, including seven starts, taking 25 shots and putting 17 on target.
Closing out First Team honors is defender Pinja Eklund (Klaukkala, Finland). Eklund played in all 18 games for Franklin Pierce and made all 18 starts. Eklund helped the Ravens hold opponents to under a goal per game. Eklund took four shots on the season, putting two on goal while playing in 1,562 minutes, all but 58 on the year.
Senior goalkeeper Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) made NE10 All-Conference Second Team allowing six goals in 10 conference games this season. The senior played in all 18 games on the year for the Ravens, making 18 starts and coming away with 65 saves in those 18 games. Fox dotted a .878 save percentage and a held a 0.52 goals against average. It is the second time Fox has been named to the All-NE10 team.
Midfielder Olivia Crespo (Ludlow, Mass.) earns her first All-NE10 team award after coming away with four goals and one assist on the season, including the game-winner against Southern Connecticut State. Crespo played in and made starts in all 18 games for Franklin Pierce this season, taking 21 shots and putting 16 on target.
First-year Ana Gerjolj (Slovenia) started all 18 games for the Ravens, earning All-NE10 Third Team accolades as well as All-Rookie Team honors. Gerjolj played in 1,038 minutes for the Ravens and took eight shots on goal.
The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team finished the regular season with a 13-3-1 overall record and a 7-2-1 record in NE10 play. The Ravens earned the second seed in the conference tournament and won the NE10 First Round game, 2-0 over Assumption. They will host sixth-seeded Saint Anselm College on Thursday, November 14, at 4:00 PM in a NE10 Semifinal game. The winner of this game will advance to face the winner of top-seeded Adelphi and No. 4 Bentley on Sunday, November 17.
