COLCHESTER, Vt. (11/2/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team took on Saint Michael's, who broke a more than 20-year-old school record for wins in a season. The Ravens were sure to halt their streak as they defeated the Purple Knights, 6-0, Saturday afternoon in their final regular season game of the season.

Score: FPU 6, SMC 0

Records: FPU: 12-3-1(6-2-1 NE10), SMC 11-2-4 (3-2-4 NE10)

Location: Duffy Field, Colchester, Vt.

Date: Saturday, November 11, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Claudia Peirce (Carver, Mass.) would take the ball end line and send a well-placed ball across the box to a Jenni Huttunen (Suomi,Finland) who would get the Ravens on the board first.

  • The Ravens added another goal before half time as they capitalized on a free kick outside the box. Kaitlyn Bautista (Scurry, Texas) sent the ball into the box and Grace Martin (Millbury, Mass.) would head the ball towards the net for Erin Keyt (Melbourne, Austrailia) to compete with the defense and tap it in for the 2-0 lead.

  • The scoring would not stop there. Gianna Derose (Brewster, N.Y.) would send a long ball over the top of the Purple Knights defense for Peirce. Peirce would take the ball and send it past the diving goalkeeper to go up 3-0.

  • Less than five minutes later, Derose would send the ball into the box from out wide this time. The ball would deflect off the far post and into the middle of the box right to the foot of Peirce for the 4-0 lead.

  • The Ravens would strike again when Martin would find Keyt in the middle of the 18 for her fourth goal in just two games this week.

  • With less than a minute to play, the Purple Knights would unsuccessfully clear the ball out of their end and Taylor Maher (Clinton, Conn.) would find the ball at her feet and shoot the ball beautifully to the top corner of the goal to earn herself the first goal of her Raven career and give the Ravens the comfortable 6-0 win.
