Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 6 Adelphi, 2-1

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (10/19/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team traveled to nationally ranked No. 6 Adelphi for a Northeast-10 tilt, Saturday.  

RECORDS:  

  • FPU: 8-3-1 (3-2-1 NE10)  
  • ADELPHI: 8-1-0 (6-0-0 NE10)  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Ravens had the first offensive chance of the game with a shot from Olivia Crespo (Ludlow, Mass.) in the second minute which would be grabbed by Panther's goalkeeper Peyton DeRouen.  

  • Both teams went back and forth until the Panthers broke through in the 24th minute. Kayleigh Goodrich would loft the ball to Gia Mandile who took two touches before firing a shot into the back of the net past Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.).  

  • The first set piece out of halftime would result in another Panther goal. Julianna Violi would send a free kick into the box, which Goodrich headed to the feet of Carly Issing for a shot to the top left corner of the net. 

  • Franklin Pierce would find room in the Panther's half just ten minutes later as an offensive chance turned into a penalty kick for the Ravens. Aino Martikainen (Jarvenpaa, Finland) would capatalize and cut the lead to one.  

  • For the remaining 30 minutes of the match, the Ravens would turn the heat on as they took 14 shots in the second half alone, but the Panthers continued to stand strong to hold their 2-1 lead for the remainder of the game. 

INSIDE THE LINES:  

  • The Ravens outshot the Panthers 15-14, with 14 shots coming in the second half.  

  • The Ravens had five corner kicks to the Panthers' one.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens continue their stretch of road games as they travel to visit the Chargers of University of New Haven, Tuesday. The match is set for 4 PM.
