Women's Soccer: Four Different Ravens Score to Improve to 2-0

FLUSHING, N.Y. (9/8/2024) – Franklin Pierce University women's soccer won its second game at the Queens College Conference Challenge with a 4-0 win over Queens (NY), Sunday. After defeating Mercy on Friday, the Ravens showed no signs of wear, with four different Ravens contributing to the scoresheet.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Jenni Huttunen (Suomi, Finland) found Grace Martin (Millbury, Mass.) making a run across the top of the box who would shoot towards to lower left corner to give the Ravens the 1-0 lead.
  • Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) would see three shots the rest of the first half including one as close as the crossbar.
  • A minute into the second half, Brigid Moore (West Springfield, Mass.) sent a cross into the box towards the direction of Ruby Conroy (Hawthorne, N.J.) who placed it perfectly towards the head of Grace Martin. Martin headed the ball wide of the net where Claudia Peirce (Carver, Mass.) was able to place it behind the Knights goalkeeper.
  • In the 84th minute, Peirce took the ball down the left side to the endline and sent it into the box where multiple Ravens were waiting. First year Kaitlyn S. Bautista (Scurry, Texas) found the ball and shot it just under the crossbar to give the Ravens the 3-0 lead.
  • To close out the Ravens scoring, Aino Martikainen (Järvenpää, Finland) converted her third penalty kick goal in just two games to improve the Ravens to 2-0.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior goalkeeper, Emilie Fox would see eight shots, only two on goal.
  • The Ravens outshot the Knights 15-8.
  • The Knights would see three corners to the Ravens' two.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: FPU travels to a familiar NE10 opponent to take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm College for matchup one of two they will play during the 2024 season. The game is set for Wednesday, September 11 at 3 PM.
