Franklin Pierce women's soccer

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 2, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team piled up 14 shot attempts -- though put only four on goal -- on the road on Wednesday night, but it would not be enough against No. 10 nationally ranked Saint Rose. Junior goalkeeper Marika Laurendeau turned aside all four of the Ravens' on-target shots, while the Golden Knights beat sophomore Casey Kane (Millis, Mass.) three times on as many shots on goal at the other end of the field, as Saint Rose came away with a 3-0 win in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-4-1 (2-3-0 NE10), while Saint Rose improves to 7-0-1 (4-0-1 NE10).

Saint Rose opened the scoring inside the opening quarter-hour, in the 13th minute, when senior forward Nina Predanic collected the first of her two goals on the night. She got on the other end of a through ball from fellow senior forward Morgan Burchhardt and salted away her seventh goal of the season from approximately 12 yards out.

The Golden Knights struck again in the first half, as they doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Senior back Deanna Trongone put a free kick into the net from 20 yards out for her second score of the campaign.

Franklin Pierce had a golden chance to halve the deficit in the 36th minute, after Saint Rose senior back Nia Brown was whistled for a foul inside the penalty area. However, Laurendeau was able to stymie senior forward Veronica Marques (Sao Paulo, Brazil) on the resulting penalty kick to keep the Ravens off the board.

Predanic bookended the scoring with her second of the night in the second half, as Saint Rose notched an insurance marker in the 54th minute to create the 3-0 final. Again Predanic ran down the other end of a through ball, this time from Trongone, who added an assist to go with her goal. Predanic finished things off from 10 yards out to cap the scoring.

Kane (2-2-1) did not make a save against three shots on goal and suffered the loss in the Franklin Pierce goal. Laurendeau (7-0-1) stopped all four shots on her net to post her first shutout of the season.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they return home to host Bentley in an NE10 contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
