Women's Lacrosse: Ravens Strike First but Fall to No.1 Pace University, 23-8

PLEASANTVILLE, NY (3/16/2024) –  The Ravens dropped a hard loss Saturday afternoon to the No.1 nationally ranked Pace University Setters, 23-8. Squaring off against the reigning Division II National Champions, juniors Riley Beem (Windham, ME) and Hayley Hermsdorf led Ravens with a combined four goals on four shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens entered as underdogs but started on the right foot with an unassisted goal from Erin McIlroy (Newfields, NH) to take the 1-0 lead. The Setters responded in force two minutes later with a goal of their own which kicked off an eight-goal run. Senior midfielder Kayli Hoefs (Amsterdam, NY) grabbed a goal but the Setters followed up with three more to close out the first quarter, 11-2.
  • In the second, Beem and Hermsdorf each grabbed a goal but the Setters kept their foot on the gas and scored four times to make it 15-4 at the end of the half.
  • Offensive domination bled into the third quarter after Pace racked up another six goals. Hermsdorf grabbed her second goal of the game with six minutes left in the third but the Setters held onto a 21-5.
  • Pierce opened up the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals from Olivia Robb (East Longmeadow, MA) and Beem, but Pace answered with two goals of their own. With a minute left, Julia Bond (Thomaston, CT) capitalized on free position shot and buried the final goal of the game.
