Women's Lacrosse Finalizes 2023 Season with 19-8 Loss to No.12 Adelphi University
RINDGE, N.H. (4/26/23) – The Franklin Pierce women's lacrosse team came to the end of the 2023 season on Wednesday afternoon, and battled it out against No. 12 Adelphi University in a 19-8 loss at Sodexo Field.
The Ravens complete the campaign with a 3-13 (2-10 NE10) overall record, while Adelphi improves to 10-5 (8-3 NE10) with one more game to go in their season.
The day got off to a hot start for the Panthers as they registered the first three goals of the afternoon for the early lead. However, their early run would be disrupted by the first goal of the afternoon for the Ravens from senior Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.), cutting the visitor lead down to 3-1. Adelphi would pick it right back up through the remainder of the quarter, cruising out to a 7-1 lead through 15-minutes played on four straight strikes.
The Panthers would push their lead to 12-1 with an explosive second quarter, scoring another five goals in a row to push their run to 9-0. Despite this, Pierce would not go into the break empty handed, as junior attacker Olivia Delonais (North Andover, Mass.) helped them back onto the scoreboard with her 22nd of the season, unassisted. At halftime, the Panthers would hold a 12-2 lead.
Mimicking the first quarter, Adelphi pulled away to a 15-2 lead with the second half's first three goals. However, it was at this point where the Ravens began to click offensively, as they responded with two consecutive goals from junior Kayli Hoefs (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and sophomore Hayley Hermsdorf (Center Moriches, N.Y.). Following a singular strike by the Panthers, Katelyn Hadden returned with her second of the game with Pierce a man-up, giving the Ravens a boost entering the fourth and final frame.
Once again, Adelphi would score the first goal of the period, but the fourth would entirely belong to the Ravens. Hadden would be dominant at the draw, which aided a 3-0 run by the Ravens to pull the score to 17-8 with 5:00 to go. Of the run, both Hoefs and Hermsdorf would add their second goals of the game, while freshman Olivia Robb (East Longmeadow, Mass.) capped it off with her 7th of the year.
However, Adelphi would add the final two goals of the game, finalizing the 19-8 victory for themselves.
In goal, senior netminder Erin Blake (Southborough, Mass.) stopped 7-of-26 shots faced, completing the season with a 3-12 record.
