Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 17 Pace in Season Finale, 17-10

Caroline Lounsbury

RINDGE, N.H. (April 27, 2019) – An eight-goal run in the first half would provide the difference plus a goal on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team was defeated in its season finale, 17-10, by No. 17 nationally ranked Pace at Sodexo Field. Pace freshman midfielder Aleya Corretjer led all players with seven points on four goals and three assists in the Northeast-10 Conference affair. Freshman attack Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah) scored four times in defeat for the Ravens.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce concludes its season at 6-10 (3-10 NE10), matching its win total from a year ago, while Pace improves to 11-6 (9-4 NE10).

Things started strong for Franklin Pierce on Saturday. Junior attack Bella Lima (Hudson, Mass.) opened the scoring 36 seconds in, and Ernst followed with a pair, as the Ravens jumped to a 3-0 lead just over six minutes into the contest.

Pace seized control of the afternoon from there, however. The Setters ran off the next eight goals, over a span of 18:49, to open up an 8-3 lead. Corretjer scored all four of her goals in the run, and added a pair of assists for good measure, while senior attack Juliana Marcolini scored twice. Lima struck for her second of the afternoon with 65 seconds remaining in the half to cut the deficit to 8-4 heading into halftime.

Franklin Pierce was able to keep the deficit at four goals, at 11-7, until nearly 10 minutes had elapsed in the second half, as junior attack Morgan Riley (Jamesville, N.Y.) scored twice and freshman midfielder Jenna Cimbron (Bristol, R.I.) added a goal, to counter a trio of Pace scores early in the frame. Pace would score the next five though, courtesy of five different goal scorers, to put the game on ice. Ernst added a pair of late goals to round out her four-goal day, as Franklin Pierce cut the final deficit to 17-10.

Ernst (4-0-4) and Lima (3-0-3) did most of the work offensively for Franklin Pierce, while Riley (2-0-2), Cimbron (1-1-2) and sophomore attack Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.) (0-2-2) added two points apiece. Ernst snagged four draw controls, while junior defender Jill Koop (Youngstown, N.Y.) caused a pair of turnovers.

For Pace, Corretjer (4-3-7) did the heavy lifting, while sophomore midfielder Emma Rafferty (3-1-4) and Marcolini (3-0-3) added at least three points apiece. Corretjer led all players with seven draw controls.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Butera (West Milford, N.J.) finished with 15 saves against 32 shots on goal and suffered the loss (0-2) in the Franklin Pierce net. Freshman netminder Sienna Masullo (11-5) made eight saves against 18 shots at the other end to pick up the win in the Pace crease.
