COLCHESTER, Vt. (April 10, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team trailed, 15-13, with under five minutes to play on Wednesday afternoon at Saint Michael's. The Ravens would score twice in just 24 seconds to tie the game with under four minutes to play, but were unable to edge out front. Instead, Saint Michael's sophomore attack Kaitlyn Waystack broke the tie with 2:39 to play, as the Purple Knights notched a 16-15 victory over the visiting Ravens in Northeast-10 Conference play at Duffy Field.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-6 (3-6 NE10), while Saint Michael's improves to 3-7 (1-7 NE10).

Neither team led by more than two goals through the entirety of the first half, with Franklin Pierce taking an 8-7 lead into the intermission. The Ravens scored the first two goals of the second half, with both sophomore attack Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Jenna Cimbron (Bristol, R.I.) finding the net off of helpers from junior attack Morgan Riley (Jamesville, N.Y.), to push the lead out to 10-7, with under 25 minutes to play.

Saint Michael's scored the next three goals, to tie the game at 10-10 on a goal by senior midfielder Kate Martin with 17:23 to play. The teams went back to largely trading blows from there. Saint Michael's would push out to a two-goal lead at 14-12, with 7:48 to play, and would hold a 15-13 lead into the final five minutes. Junior attack Bella Lima (Hudson, Mass.) struck twice, just 24 seconds apart, as the Ravens drew level at 15-15, with only 3:49 remaining. It would be Saint Michael's which fired the final salvo though, as sophomore attack Erin Mikson set up Waystack's winner with 2:39 to go. Saint Michael's won the ensuing draw, and Franklin Pierce would not record another shot attempt the rest of the way.

Freshman attack Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah) piled up seven goals, one off of her season high, including five first-half tallies, to lead all players. The Ravens had four other players tally three points apiece: Lima (2-1-3), Cimbron (1-2-3), Lounsbury (2-1-3) and sophomore midfielder Zoe Totland (Salt Lake City, Utah) (2-1-3). Lounsbury led all players with eight draw controls, while freshman defender Jacklyn Keane (Framingham, Mass.) collected four ground balls. Cimbron and Ernst caused three turnovers each.

For Saint Michael's, Mikson led the way with six points (5-1-6), followed by five points from senior attack Alex Vincent (4-1-5) and four points apiece for junior midfielder Kaelyn Oliver (2-2-4) and Martin (3-1-4). Sophomore defender Emma Coleman led all players with five caused turnovers, while she and senior defender Annie Martin each matched Keane with four ground balls.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Butera (West Milford, N.J.) started in net for Franklin Pierce and made one save against eight shots. Freshman Megan Bacik (Huntington Station, N.Y.) took over for the second half, made four saves against 13 shots the rest of the way and suffered the loss (6-5).

Sophomore goalkeeper Lucy Chin (1-0) went the distance in the Saint Michael's crease and made nine saves against 24 shots to pick up the win.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, April 16, when they return home to host Adelphi in NE10 play. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
