HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Ravens got off to a hot start in the first period. Senior captain Mikalya Kelley (Eagen, MN) fired a wrister from the right circle over the shoulder of Sharks goaltender Abbie Thompson in the first five minutes of the period to put the Ravens up 1-0. Just over four minutes later, Jeannie Wallner tied the game for the Sharks, cleaning up a loose rebound in front of the net.

  • The Sharks took their first lead of the game ten minutes into the second period courtesy of a goal by Milana Butera. The Sharks controlled a 2-1 lead for most of the second period until a late penalty put the Ravens on the power play. Redshirt freshman forward Brynn Levinson (Glencoe, IL) knotted up the score 2-2 with a power-play goal. It seemed like the score would again be tied going into the intermission, but Jeannie Wallner took advantage of a Ravens' defensive breakdown and gave the Sharks the lead with under thirty seconds to go in the period.

  • The Sharks then took complete control of the third period, with Wallner getting her third and fourth goals of the game in succession. Grace Babington also added to the pain, scoring a shorthanded empty-netter on a 6-3 Ravens power play to make it 6-2. Despite another Levinson power play goal, the Ravens were not able to mount a comeback and fell to the Sharks for the second night in a row by a score of 6-3.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • The Sharks outshot the Ravens 36-27, taking control of the possession game and continuously putting pressure on the Ravens' defense.

  • The Ravens did win 29 faceoffs compared to the Sharks' 22, however, turnovers hurt the Ravens and led the Sharks' higher shot total.

  • Jeannie Wallner was easily the player of the game with 4 goals scored, grabbing a hat trick on the night. She entered the game with three goals on the season and doubled her total, making her the Sharks' leading scorer.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS
