BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (11/9/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's hockey team emerged victorious in a nail-biting 3-2 match against Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon.

Score: FPU 3, Stonehill 2

Records: FPU 6-4 (6-2 NEWHA), Stonehill 4-9 (4-4 NEWHA)

Location: Bridgewater Ice Arena, Bridgewater, Mass.

Date: Saturday, November 9, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Franklin Pierce took an early lead just over three minutes into the first period with first-year forward Bo Dean (Toronto, Ontario) scored her third goal of the season off a breakaway, slipping the puck past the Skyhawks goalie. Despite a fast start from the Skyhawks, Franklin Pierce held them scoreless in the first, taking a 1-0 lead into intermission.

  • In the second period, the Ravens extended their lead when junior Anna Caumo (Brunico, Italy) found the back of the net, notching her third goal of the season after a deflection near Stonehill's goal. Stonehill answered soon after, with junior Sydney Russell, cutting the Ravens' lead to 2-1. However, despite a late surge, the Skyhawks couldn't equalize before the end of the period.

  • The third period began with Stonehill overcoming two penalties to tie the game at 2-2, courtesy of a shorthanded goal by Maeve Connolly. Franklin Pierce quickly responded, regaining the lead just 40 seconds later with a power-play goal from first-year standout Brynn Levinson (Glencoe, Ill.), who also contributed an assist.

INSIDE THE LINES:

  • Junior goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Parks, Ill.) anchored the Ravens' defense with 35 saves, earning her sixth win of the season.

  • The Skyhawks outshot the Ravens 37-20.

  • The Ravens were 1 for 8 on power plays while the Skyhawks were 1 for 3.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The women's ice hockey team stays at their home site for their next two games. They host Long Island University for two NEWHA conference games. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 PM. Saturday is set for 4 PM.
