Kelley, Korneta Each Take Home Weekly NEWHA Accolades
WINTHROP, Mass. (11/5/24) - After earning a pair of hard-fought victories this past week, the Franklin Pierce women's ice hockey team had a pair of players named New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) as weekly award recipients on Tuesday afternoon. For their efforts, senior forward Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.) and junior defender Maggie Korneta (Naperville, Ill.) were each selected as the NEWHA's Player and Defender of the Week, respectively.
Kelley has been a driving force for Pierce, posting back-to-back multi goal performances against Saint Anselm en route to a total of five goals and one assist for six points last week. This season, Kelley currently ranks first in the NEWHA in goals and points with 11 points on six goals and five assists.
Korneta notched four points on one goal and three assists in the Ravens' weekend sweep. In Saturday's win, Korneta recorded her second multi-assist game of the year. In addition, Korenta helped lead the defense to a 2-0 weekend. On the year, Korneta has recorded nine points on seven assists and two goals, ranking first in the NEWHA in assists.
Women's hockey will face-off with Stonehill for a weekend series this coming Friday (11/8) and Saturday (11/9), with the opening contest beginning at 7 PM at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Massachusetts.
