WINCHENDON, Mass. (11/2/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's ice hockey team earned themselves the weekend sweep of the Hawks of Saint Anselm after picking up a 7-3 win Saturday night. Mikayla Kelley scored a hat-trick to help the Ravens earn the NEWHA win.

Score: FPU 7, STA 3

Records: FPU 5-3 (5-1 NEWHA), STA 3-8 (3-3 NEWHA)

Location: Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, Winchendon, Mass.

Date: Saturday, November 2, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens would open up the scoring as Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.) found Lauren Maras (Alexandria, Minn.) on the counterattack who would then send it back to Kelley right in front of net for a shot and a 1-0 lead.

  • The Hawks would respond only a few minutes later when Lilly Hartnell earns her first goal of the season on a rebound from Nicola Forth.

  • Kelley adds to her points on the night as she would take the puck up from the defensive end and score on her own for the 2-1 lead.

  • The Hawks would be sure to not let the first period end without evening the score at 2-2. Schneiderhan would take a shot from distance that would bounce off goalkeeper Jill Hertl's (Highland Park, Ill.) blocker and into the net.

  • Franklin Pierce would break the tie in the 14th minute of the second period. Maras would pass the puck towards Maggie Korenta (Naperville, Ill.) who would rip a shot from distance and give the Ravens the 3-2 lead.

  • With five minutes to go in the second, Casey Coffey (Hudson, Wis.) found Emma Laroche (Highgate, Vt.) who would then lay the puck on the stick of Kelley. Kelley would pull a move that would earn herself a hat-trick on the night.

  •  The Raven's offensive spark would not let down once the third period got underway. In the first minutes, the Ravens would extend their lead to 3 as Lilah Bauer (Monroe, Wis.) would take the puck all on her own and snipe a shot past the Hawks' goaltender for the 5-2 lead.

  • On a Raven's power play, Brynn Levinson (Glencoe, Ill.) would take a shot from the right above the goal line that would deflect in the Raven's favor to increase the lead to 4 goals.

  • Laroche would contribute to the Raven's offense as Maras would find Kelley who would then send it towards Laroche right in front of the cage.

  • The Hawks would get on the board for the first time since the first period. Schneiderhan would earn her second goal of the night on a Hawk's power play.

INSIDE THE LINES:

  • Junior goaltender Jill Hertl would face 33 shots and make 30 saves.
