MANCHESTER, N.H. (11/01/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's ice hockey team defeated the Saint Anselm Hawks 4-3 in regulation, Friday night. Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.) would score two goals to give the Ravens the NEWHA win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

• The Ravens wasted no time seizing momentum with Anna Caumo (Brunico, Italy) lighting the fire just 46 seconds in after a seamless setup from Lilah Bauer (Monroe, Wis.) and Maggie Korneta (Naperville, Ill.).  

• As the Ravens kept up relentless pressure, Kelley doubled their lead at the eighth-minute mark, skillfully recovering her own rebound to send the puck past the Hawk's goaltender, putting the Ravens firmly in control.  

• Saint Anselm fought to counter, managing their first shot on net through Madi Ressler, but Ravens goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) proved a formidable barrier. Though the Hawks rallied briefly with a series of shots, including back-to-back attempts by Audrey Jackson and a strong push from senior captain Tyra Turner, they struggled to overcome the Ravens' defensive resilience. 

• The second period began with Saint Anselm eager to shift the game's momentum, notching their first goal through Brenna Young off an initial attempt by Jackson. But the Ravens wouldn't be denied. With Saint Anselm on a power play, Kelley, in a burst of speed and coordination with teammate Brynn Levinson, (Glencoe, Ill.) outmaneuvered the Hawks for a short-handed goal that extended Franklin Pierce's lead to 3-1. Although Saint Anselm managed to cut the lead with a second goal before the end of the period, Franklin Pierce's defensive unit, led by quick reflexes from Hertl, kept their efforts largely at bay. 

• Entering the third period with a determined edge, the Ravens sought to seal the game. Bo Dean (Toronto, Ontario) delivered in the seventh minute, outfoxing the Hawks' defense to bring Franklin Pierce up 4-2. Though Saint Anselm responded shortly after, Jackson managed to capitalize on a deflection, reducing the margin back to one. Yet, as the Hawks tried to press forward, the Ravens held strong, denying any further attempts and maintaining their lead until the final buzzer sounded. 

INSIDE THE LINES:  

• The teams tied each other for shots on goal, each tabbing 31 a-piece.  

• Franklin Pierce owned the edge in face-offs winning 40-37.  

• Junior goaltender Jill Hertl earned the win with 29 shots faced and allowing three.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The women's ice hockey team will continue their home-and-home stretch with the Hawks as they return to their home arena tomorrow. The puck drop is set for 7 PM at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
