WINCHENDON, Mass. (10/26/24) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens women's hockey team suffered a tough result on Saturday night, falling in overtime to the Post University Eagles, 3-2 in overtime in NEWHA play.

Score: Post 3, Franklin Pierce 2 (OT)

Records: Franklin Pierce (3-3-0, 3-1-0 NEWHA), Post (2-6-0, 2-2-0 NEWHA)

Location: Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, Winchendon, Mass.

Date: Saturday, October 26, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens started the game with a bang, striking first :32 into the first period. Junior forward Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.) and freshman forward Bo Dean (Toronto, Ontario) connected beautifully on give-and-go passes and found open sophomore forward Emma Laroche (Highgate, Vt.) in front of the net, putting the Ravens up 1-0, a lead they held on to for the remainder of the first period.

  • The Eagles responded 13:07 into the second period. Marley Webster connected off passes from Angeline Pitter and Julia Wysocki to tie the score 1-1.

  • It didn't take long for the Ravens to regain their lead, scoring about 4 minutes later in the frame. Junior defenseman Maggie Korneta (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore defenseman Courtney Swenson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) connected on passes and fed junior forward Anna Caumo (Brunico, Italy) who buried a shot from the left circle, putting the Ravens in front 2-1.

  • The Ravens held onto their lead for most of the 3rd, but the Eagles countered late. Maddy Noonan tied the score 2-2 15:19 into the period. Regulation wouldn't settle a winner and overtime was needed in Winchendon.

  • 4:26 into overtime, Tristan Currie dished a beautiful pass to Caryss Kehl who buried the OT winner to give the Eagles the stunning 3-2 road victory in NEWHA play.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Eagles outshot the Ravens 29-24.

  • Both teams failed to convert on the power play, with the Ravens going 0-5 and the Eagles going 0-3.

  • Junior goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) suffered the loss in net, but posted a solid 26-save performance between the pipes.
