Four Different Goal Scorers Power Women’s Hockey to Season-Opener Win

WORCESTER, Mass. (10/11/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's ice hockey team was in action for real on Friday night, as the Ravens opened their season with a NEWHA matchup at Assumption. Junior Maggie Korneta (Naperville, Ill.), senior Julia Stevens (Minneapolis, Minn.) each contributed their first goals of the 2024-25 season while RS freshman Brynn Levinson (Glencoe, Ill.) and freshman Bo Dean (Ontario, Canada) would score their first goals of their career to give the Ravens the 4-0 win.

RECORDS:

  • FPU: 1-0-0 (1-0-0 NEWHA)
  • ASM: 0-4-1 (0-1-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens got on the board at 8:49 with their first goal of the season. Ravens defender Korneta would find the puck near the neutral zone from Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.) and Emma Laroche (Highgate, Vt.) and rip a shot past Greyhounds goalkeeper Carissa Mudrak to go up 1-0.

  • The Ravens did not hesitate to start the second period. 41 seconds into the period, the Ravens offense took advantage of Mudrak's loose goalkeeping as Kelley took a shot and Stevens would tap in the rebound on assists from Dean and Laroche, the Ravens lead 2-0.

  • At 6:33 in the second period, once again the Ravens would capitalize on a second-chance opportunity in front of the net. Ravens forward, Levinson, would find the puck in front of the crease for a shot that would land in the net.

  • Most of the third period continued to go back and forth between the two teams. Goalkeeper Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) held on strong for the Ravens and contributed multiple saves to keep the Greyhounds off the board throughout most of the third period.

  • In the 11th minute of the third period, freshman Bo Dean would receive the puck from Korneta and take on a Greyhounds defender. Dean pulled a nifty move towards the outside to create space and would rip a shot on the short side of the net, right over the shoulder of Mudrack to give the Ravens the 4-0 lead.

  • The Greyhounds would land a tally on the board with six minutes remaining in the game. The center would chip the puck to Jenna Chaplin coming off the right wing on a faceoff, for a Greyhounds goal.

INSIDE THE CREASE:

  • Hertl would be crucial in net for the Ravens with 43 saves.

  • The Greyhounds would outshoot the Ravens 44-22.

  • The Ravens were 0 for 2 on the power play. The Greyhounds were 0-5 on the power play.
