Women's Ice Hockey: Ravens Fall in OT to Sacred Heart, 1-0

WINCHENDON, MASS. (1/18/24) - After a three periods without a goal, the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team fell in overtime to the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Thursday night. 

Score: Franklin Pierce 0, Sacred Heart 1. 
Records: Franklin Pierce (11-12-0, 10-10-0 NEWHA), Sacred Heart (11-16-0, 10-9-0 NEWHA) 
Location: Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, Winchendon, MA.

How It Happened:  

  • Both teams played great defense and kept the score 0-0 entering overtime. Pioneers Goaltender Jillian Petruno finished with a 24-save shutout while sophomore goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) saved 39 of 40 shots.  

  • The tension heading into overtime was palpable and both teams looked even, yet the Pioneers had a slight edge in shots on goal having 36 compared to the Ravens' 23 entering overtime.  

  • The game-winner was scored in the final minute of overtime courtesy of Pioneers forward Isabella Chaput from an assist by forward Sydney Antonakis. 

Breaking Down the Numbers: 

  • Jillian Petruno: Made 24 saves on 24 shots to complete her third shutout of the season.  

  • Jill Hertl: Made 39 saves on 40 shots.  

  • Pioneers outshot the Ravens 40-24. 

Up Next for the Ravens: The Ravens look to bounce back from two straight losses with a two-game road series against the Post Eagles next weekend in Waterbury, CT. The first game's puck drop will be at 8:15 pm on Friday, January 26th.
