WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 4, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team barely needed to break a sweat on Tuesday night, in the team's final non-conference contest of the season. The Ravens held visiting Anna Maria to just four shots on goal on the way to an 8-0 win at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Freshman forward Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie, Minn.) had the biggest day of her young career, as she piled up five points on two goals and three assists to lead the way.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 18-9-0, while second-year program Anna Maria falls to 2-16-1.

Senior forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) got the party started with the only goal of the first period, which was her second goal of the season. Senior defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) sent the puck ahead from her own end and into the neutral zone for junior forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.), who led the rush into the offensive end. Amato ultimately found Gilbride in the right circle for the finish.

The Ravens pulled away with four goals in the second period, including three in a span of 95 seconds. After senior defenseman Hayley Doneghey (North Attleborough, Mass.) held the puck in at the point, freshman forward Reece Diener (McKinney, Texas) set up fellow freshman forward Cassidy Jones (Stillwater, Minn.) at the right post for the latter's fifth of the season, at 7:41. Just 70 seconds later, Kniss notched her 11th of the season at 8:51 with a laser from the left circle, after she forced a turnover and took possession behind the net. Then, at 9:16, Kniss and freshman defenseman Bethany Ross (Canton, Mich.) picked up assists as junior forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) finished off her 14th of the year at the left post.

Kniss would notch her third point of the period with an assist on the final goal of the frame as well. She fed the puck to junior defenseman Carolyn Drowne (Bridgewater, Mass.) at the top of the right circle. Drowne's shot through traffic from there was tipped near the hash marks by sophomore forward Bridget Fagan (Millis, Mass.), who picked up her fourth goal of the season at 12:07.

Three more goals in the third ballooned the final tally all the way out to 8-0. At 4:46, Parker deked around the final defender and went to the backhand for her second goal of the night, off assists from Gilbride and Guimont. The lone power-play tally (1-for-4) on the night came at 7:26, as Diener put the puck home at the top of the crease, while Kniss and Fagan provided the helpers. Kniss capped the scoring from the edge of the left circle at 12:29, while Parker and sophomore defenseman Kiki Doucette (Bridgewater, Mass.) tacked on assists.

Senior goaltender Jessica Strack (Reading, Mass.) needed to make only four saves to pick up the win (5-0-0) and her third career shutout, as Franklin Pierce piled up a 60-4 advantage in shots.

Sophomore netminder Gabrielle Gibson (0-5-0) started in the Anna Maria crease and suffered the loss after making 26 saves against 31 shots over the opening 32:07, before being relieved after the Fagan goal. Freshman Julia Smith logged the final 27:53 and made 26 saves as well, against 29 shots.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, when they remain home to host Long Island in an NEWHA weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
