WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 2, 2019) – One day after a scoreless tie, the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team and Sacred Heart played an eight-goal affair on Saturday evening at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Freshman forward Anna Klein notched two goals and an assist to lead Sacred Heart, which posted a 5-3 victory in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance contest. Junior forward Jayne Lewis had a goal and an assist, including her 100^th career point, for the Pioneers.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 15-9-1 (6-7-1 NEWHA), while Sacred Heart improves to 18-5-4 (7-2-3 NEWHA).

After Friday night went scoreless, Sacred Heart needed just 113 seconds to get things started on Saturday. Senior forward Lilly Cleary's shot from close range on the left side was saved, but freshman defenseman Kelly Solak was on the scene to bang home the rebound at the right post for her second goal of the year, at the 1:53 mark. Sophomore forward Lexi Edwards added an assist as well.

Franklin Pierce evened things up with a power-play marker – the Ravens would go 3-for-5 on the power play on the day – at 12:10. Junior defenseman Katie Neuburger (Fayetteville, N.Y.) sent the puck towards the net from the middle of the blue line, and it changed directions twice on its way to the net. Freshman forward Kiki Doucette (Bridgewater, Mass.) had the initial deflection in the slot, and then sophomore forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) stuffed the puck in at the right post for her team-leading 15^th goal of the year.

Sacred Heart took a 2-1 lead before the intermission, with a goal at the 16:25 mark. The play devolved into a bit of a scramble in front of the Franklin Pierce net, but the puck eventually squirted free to Klein on the right side. She slotted away her ninth goal of the campaign from there, while Lewis and senior forward Katie Stueve tacked on the assists.

Sacred Heart scored the second period's only two goals, both on the power play, to push the lead out to 4-1. First, freshman forward Cannady Taleghani curled from the right-wing boards into the high slot and had her shot blocked by the defense, though Klein was able to clean up the rebound to make it a multiple-goal evening at 7:12. Less than two minutes later, at 9:03, Klein made it a three-point game, as she slipped a centering pass out of the left-wing corner to Lewis, as the latter crashed towards the net and put home a one-time finish. Junior defenseman Olivia Bryant picked up an assist on the play as well.

With a two-player advantage and a three-goal deficit early in the third, Franklin Pierce head coach David Stockdale elected to pull the goaltender for an extra attacker to try to spark a comeback attempt. Unfortunately, it only led to senior forward Haley Payne backhanding the puck into the empty cage from deep in the neutral zone for her 13^th goal of the year, a shorthanded tally, at 7:20.

The Ravens would put home a power-play tally just 49 seconds later, at 8:09. Sophomore forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) and junior defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) worked to track down a loose puck behind the net, and the latter put it back out front for sophomore forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.), who banged home her 14^th of the season.

On the power-play again after the midpoint of the period, the extra-attacker gambit would pay off the second time around, with a power-play tally, at 12:06. Junior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) would ultimately provide the finish from the right circle for her seventh goal of the season, while Massaro and Guimont picked up the assists again. The Ravens could get no closer down the stretch however, as Sacred Heart skated away with the 5-3 victory.

Freshman goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) finished with 19 saves against 23 shots on goal and suffered the loss (10-5-1) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. In the other crease, senior Sarah Erban (16-2-4) stopped 24 of 27 shots to pick up the win for Sacred Heart.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 8, when they remain home to host Nichols in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
