SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (January 26, 2019) – Junior forward Kelsey Holmes (Warwick, R.I.) scored her first two goals of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team finished off a dominant weekend sweep with a  3-0 win at Saint Michael's. Freshman goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) made 16 saves to post her second straight shutout, as the Ravens did not surrender a goal in the two-game, New England Women's Hockey Alliance series at Cairns Arena.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 15-8-0 (6-6-0 NEWHA), while Saint Michael's falls to 4-12-1 (2-7-1 NEWHA).

After a scoreless first period, Franklin Pierce opened the scoring at the 3:38 mark of the second frame. Sophomore forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) had the initial shot on the play, from the slot, which was saved by Saint Michael's senior goaltender Nicole Talcott. The rebound came out to the left side, where junior forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) was able to corral it and backhand it into the net for her sixth goal of the season. Sophomore forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) added an assist on the play as well.

The Ravens needed fewer than four minutes to push the lead out to 2-0. Holmes had the finish on the backhand from along the goal line on the right-wing side for her first goal of the campaign. Freshman forward Stephanie Proteau (Wolcott, Conn.) and sophomore forward Emily Kramer (Rockville, Md.) provided the assists at the 7:16 mark, as the whole line got in on the action.

Holmes would make it her first career multiple-goal game in the final stanza, as she added an insurance marker at 3:57 of the third. Kramer picked up her second assist of the afternoon, as she had the initial shot on the play, before Holmes popped the rebound over the goaltender from close range.

Ostrander (10-4-0) stopped all 16 shots on her goal to pick up the win, as well as her fifth shutout of the season. She is now riding a shutout streak of 129:02, dating to the second period at Salve Regina a week ago. Ostrander is the first freshman goaltender in program history to reach double digits in wins.

At the other end of the ice, Talcott (1-5-1) piled up 40 saves against 43 shots, but suffered the loss for Saint Michael's. The Ravens posted a 43-16 advantage in shots on Saturday, as well as a 77-35 advantage over the two-game series.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, when they return home to host Sacred Heart in a two-game, NEWHA weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
