Women’s Ice Hockey Blanks Suffolk, 2-0

Emme Ostrander

EAST BOSTON, Mass. (January 8, 2019) – Sophomore forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) struck 69 seconds into the first, and junior forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) followed with a second-period tally on Tuesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team picked up a 2-0 win on the road over first-year program Suffolk. Freshman goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) stopped all 21 shots on her goal to post the shutout at Porrazzo Skating Rink.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 11-7-0 and has won three in a row, while Suffolk falls to 8-5-1.

It took just over a minute for the Ravens to find the only goal they would need on Tuesday night. Sophomore forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) had the initial shot on the play, which was saved. Massaro converted the rebound at the 1:09 mark to tally her eighth goal of the season.

The game's only other tally came at 13:19 of the second period. Sugar snapped home her fifth goal of the season from the right circle, as she put her shot over the goaltender's left shoulder.

Meanwhile, Ostrander (6-3-0) was perfect in front of the Franklin Pierce net. The reigning NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week collected 21 saves to post her third shutout of the season. At the other end of the ice, sophomore goaltender Kristen Caporusso (8-5-1) made 29 saves against 31 shots and suffered the loss in net for Suffolk.

The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Jan. 12, when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 6:55 p.m. at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, R.I.
