WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 4, 2019) – Two in the first, one in the second and one more in the third were enough to get the job done on Friday night, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team returned to action after the semester break with a 4-2 win on home ice over visiting SUNY Potsdam. Sophomore forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) had a goal and an assist, while junior defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) dished out a pair of assists in the non-conference win at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-7-0, while SUNY Potsdam falls to 4-6-2. The two teams will meet again at 2 p.m. Saturday in Winchendon to wrap up the weekend series.

The two teams traded goals quickly out of the gate on Friday night. Sophomore forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) opened the scoring with a flash, as she forced a turnover in her own end and went coast-to-coast down the left-wing side. She ultimately crashed the net to finish off her 11^th of the season at 4:13, unassisted.

The lead would stand for just 94 seconds, as Potsdam leveled things at 5:47. The Bears capitalized on a defensive-zone turnover by the Ravens, who were trying to clear their own end. While one of her line-mates ran the puck carrier off the puck, sophomore forward Emily Burke swooped in to take possession in the left circle. She headed for the net and snapped home her second of the year from the bottom of the left circle.

The Ravens took a 2-1 lead into the intermission after a power-play marker at 15:46. Guimont threw the puck towards the net from the bottom of the left circle, which sparked a scramble in the goalmouth. After sophomore forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) got her stick to the puck, it squirted free for Parker in the middle of the left circle. Parker buried the second-chance opportunity from there for her ninth goal of the campaign.

Potsdam evened things up again, at 2-2, at 3:25 of the second period. With the play coming off the right-wing half boards, sophomore forward Natalie Wasielewski put the puck towards the net from the high slot. Junior forward Lucy Condon was on the scene at the right post and deftly redirected the puck home for her second goal of the year. Senior forward Rylie Murray – the younger sister of former Franklin Pierce goaltender Madison Murray '18 – added an assist on the play as well.

Franklin Pierce struck for the eventual game-winning goal at 13:20 of the middle stanza. It was junior forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) who provided the finish from the bottom of the left circle for her fourth of the season, off of assists from Parker and junior forward Kelsey Holmes (Warwick, R.I.).

The Ravens added an insurance marker early in the third to create the 4-2 final. Guimont forced a turnover, as a pass deflected off her skate, and the ricochet wound up springing sophomore forward Ann Margaret DiSciscio (Litchfield, N.H.) on a breakaway the other way. DiSciscio went to the backhand and finished things off at the right post for her sixth of the season.

Freshman goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) finished with 20 saves against 22 shots on goal to pick up the win (4-3-0) in net for Franklin Pierce. Junior netminder Alexa Pfeiffer (3-3-1) stopped 29 of 33 shots in a losing effort for SUNY Potsdam.
