MANCHESTER, N.H. (January 20, 2018) – A pair of power-play goals in the second period on Saturday afternoon allowed the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team to erase a 2-0 first-period deficit and knot the game at 2-2 at Saint Anselm. The third period and overtime would both go scoreless, which allowed 2-2 to stand as the final score in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action at Sullivan Arena. Freshman forwards Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) and Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) had a goal and an assist each in the tie for Franklin Pierce.

With the tie, Franklin Pierce's record moves to 10-7-2 (4-7-1 NEWHA), while Saint Anselm now stands at 14-2-2 (9-1-2 NEWHA). For Franklin Pierce, it marked the first tie ever against Saint Anselm, in the 16^th all-time meeting between the two teams, as the Hawks had won each of the previous 15.

Franklin Pierce held a Saint Anselm attack which generates just shy of 35 shots per game to just 27 on the afternoon. The Hawks still enjoyed a 27-17 edge in shots, but the 10-shot advantage was a far cry from the team's average edge in the department, which is +19.

Saint Anselm opened the scoring with a pair of first-period goals. On the power play at the 10:22 mark, sophomore defenseman Megan Klaus put away her fourth goal of the season with a wrist shot from the slot, off of an assist from freshman forward Katy Meehan.

Just over three minutes later, at 14:49, sophomore forward Amanda Conger struck to make it 2-0, with an unassisted tally. She carried the puck into the offensive end of the left-wing side, made a cut towards the middle and snapped her shot home from the middle of the left circle. It was Conger's third goal of the weekend series, as well as her sixth of the campaign.

Franklin Pierce battled back with a pair of power-play goals in the middle frame to draw level at 2-2. The first of the pair came just 36 seconds into the stanza and was the seventh of the season for Parker, who put home a quick wrist shot from near the crease at the edge of the right-wing circle. Amato picked up the lone assist on the play, as she helped win the puck along the boards and worked it to Parker.

The duo then reversed roles for another power-play marker at 11:20. This time, Parker had the puck low on the right-wing side and laid it off for Amato, who eventually wristed home her team-leading 12^th goal of the year from a sharp angle on the right side. Freshman defenseman Carolyn Drowne (Bridgewater, Mass.) picked up an assist on the play as well.

After the third period went scoreless, the two teams went to overtime, which went scoreless as well, which allowed Amato's goal to stand as the game-tying tally.

Senior goaltender Madison Murray (Berkley, Mich.) stopped 25 of 27 shots on goal in the tie (6-2-1) for Franklin Pierce. At the other end of the ice, junior netminder Maddie Scavotto (9-2-2) finished with 15 saves against 17 shots between the pipes for Saint Anselm.

The Ravens return to the ice on Jan. 26-27, when they travel to Saint Michael's for an NEWHA weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, Vt.
