SHELTON, Conn. (January 13, 2018) – Freshman forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) notched her first career hat trick, and added a pair of assists as well, while sophomore forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) dished out three assists, as the duo led the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team to its second blowout win in as many days at Sports Center of Connecticut. The Ravens scored three goals each in the first and second periods and rolled to an 8-1 road win over Post to complete the weekend sweep.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 10-6-1, has won six in a row and is unbeaten in its last eight (7-0-1). Post fell to 2-14-2 with the loss. The two teams will meet later in the season for two games at Franklin Pierce to round out the season series, on Feb. 16-17.

Before fans even had time to settle into their seats after the lineups and anthems, Massaro struck twice in the game's first 110 seconds to give the Ravens all the offense they would need. Just 1:16 into the proceedings, she cashed in her sixth goal of the season. The initial shot by the Ravens on the rush into the zone was turned aside by Post freshman goaltender Ashlynn Neurauter, but Massaro was on the scene to finish off the rebound. Gilbride and freshman forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) provided the assists on the play.

Massaro's second goal of the game came just 30 seconds later. She curled into the high slot from the right-wing side and took a shot which tipped off of Neurauter's blocker, hit the inside of the left post and ricocheted into the net. It marked the fastest any player in program history has scored two consecutive goals, eclipsing the previous record of 2:08, set by current senior forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) last season, in a game against Nichols on Nov. 12, 2016. Amato and sophomore defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) tallied the assists on Massaro's second of the day.

Freshman forward Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass.) made it 3-0 at the 5:48 mark, with her fourth goal of the campaign. Freshman forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) and Brolsma would tack on the assists, and the Ravens held the three-goal lead through the remainder of the first period.

It was three more goals in the second period for Franklin Pierce, which led 6-0 after two. First, freshman defenseman Carolyn Drowne (Bridgewater, Mass.) buried a shot through traffic from the high slot for her first of the season, unassisted at the 4:55 mark.

After the midpoint of the period, Amato put home a rebound from the bottom of the left-wing circle at 11:38 to tally her team-leading 11^th goal of the season. Gilbride had the original shot and picked up another assist on the play, while Massaro added a helper as well.

Massaro would cap the hat trick with a power-play tally at 18:53, as she finished from between the hash marks. Ryan made it a two-point afternoon by assisting on the final goal of the second period, while sophomore defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) tacked on the secondary assist.

Prentiss pushed the Franklin Pierce lead as high as 7-0 at the 1:48 mark of the third period. Her third goal of the campaign came on a shot through traffic from the left point. Gilbride and Massaro were credited with assists on the play, while Amato provided an effective screen of Neurauter on the shot.

Post got on the board with its only goal of the afternoon at 7:11. The Eagles' entire line crashed the net, and it was freshman forward Ann Margaret Disciscio who was able to jam the puck home for her team-leading eighth goal of the year. Freshman defenseman Savanna Stevenson tallied the lone assist.

Franklin Pierce rounded out the scoring with a shorthanded tally at 18:47, to create the 7-1 final. Sophomore forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) corralled a loose puck in the neutral zone and broke in all alone from the blue line. She made a move to the left and salted away a backhand for her second goal of the season.

Freshman goaltender Kelly Turney (Fort Gratiot, Mich.) started in goal for Franklin Pierce and stopped all nine shots she faced over the first two periods to pick up the win (4-3-1). Sophomore Jessica Strack (Reading, Mass.) took over for the final stanza and made three saves against four shots.

In the other crease, Neurauter (1-5-0) finished with 60 saves against 68 saves and suffered the loss for Post. It marked the second outing of 60-plus saves this season for the first-year netminder.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 19, when they return home to host Saint Anselm. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
