WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 11, 2017) – Freshman defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) put home first-period goals on Saturday evening and the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team never looked back, as it rolled to a 6-0 win over New England College at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Senior forwards Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) and Michelle Holmes (Goffstown, N.H.) scored twice each in the New England Hockey Conference victory for the Ravens, while Brolsma added a pair of assists as well for a four-point game.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 16-5-1 (11-4-0 NEHC), while New England College falls to 5-17-1 (3-12-0 NEHC).

Guimont opened the scoring with the only goal the Ravens would need 4:43 into the proceedings on Saturday. She took control of the puck on the right-wing side of the neutral zone as NEC turned it over on a failed clear. Guimont cut to the middle of the ice as she crossed the blue line and then made her way to the right circle. From there, she snapped a shot to the top-left corner, over the blocker of NEC sophomore goaltender Jacqueline Clark, for her fourth goal of the season.

After the midpoint of the period, Gilbride doubled the lead to 2-0 with her eighth goal of the campaign. Brolsma won a battle along the right-wing half-wall, which loosed the puck to Gilbride in the right circle. Gilbride beat Clark over the glove hand, into the top-right corner, at 11:34.

The Ravens added three goals in the second stanza to balloon the lead to 5-0. Just 94 seconds into the period, Holmes would score her 13th of the season by putting home a rebound. Freshman defenseman Katie Neuburger (Fayetteville, N.Y.) took the original shot on the play, from the right point, which was blocked in route. The shot deflected off of Gilbride, who was tangled with a defender, and ricocheted to the left side of the slot where a waiting Holmes had a quick, easy finish before Clark could adjust.

At the 3:31 mark, Brolsma netted her 13th of the year, as she put a one-time finish between Clark's pads. Working with the puck in the right-wing corner, senior forward Alysha Raimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) made her way up the boards on the right side and laid the puck off to Guimont as they crossed paths, as the latter came down from the right point. From the corner, Guimont threaded a pass out front to Brolsma for the one-timer.

The fourth goal would ultimately spell the end of the day for Clark, who was relieved in net by NEC sophomore Ashley Castriotta at the 4:13 mark. Franklin Pierce would first strike against Castriotta at 8:43, with a power-play marker. From the left-wing side, freshman forward Kayla Trujillo (Pueblo, Colo.) sent the puck to the left point for Neuburger, who released a shot as she made her was towards the middle of the blue line. Brolsma got her stick to the puck en route and deflected it between Castriotta's pads to score her second goal of the night.

In a 4-on-3 situation after the midpoint of the third, Holmes would pick up her second of the night, with a power-play goal of her own. After a give-and-go with Holmes, Brolsma had the initial shot on the play, from the left circle. Castriotta made the save, but the rebound came straight to Holmes at the bottom of the right circle, and she was able to finish into an all-but empty net to cap the game's scoring at 11:44.

Senior goaltender Shannon O'Neil (Tewksbury, Mass.) stopped all 13 shots she faced to pick up the win (13-4-1) in net for Franklin Pierce, as well as her 14th career shutout. Clark (2-6-0) made just 11 saves against 15 shots while logging the first 24:13 and suffered the loss in net for NEC. Castriotta went the final 35:47 in goal for the Pilgrims and made 21 saves against 23 shots, as Franklin Pierce outshot NEC, 38-13, on the evening.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 17, when they remain home to host Castleton in an NEHC contest. Opening faceoff is set for 8 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
