GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (October 8, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team and sophomore Kesinee Prukmathakul (Bangkok, Thailand) both opened up big leads in Friday's first round, and both closed things out on Saturday, at the second and final round of the Saint Rose Invitational. Prukmathakul took medalist honors by three shots to wrap up her seventh career individual victory, while the Ravens picked up a blowout, 52-shot win, their third in a row. The event was held at the par-72, 5804-yard Pinehaven Country Club.
It was the first victory of 2022-23 for Prukmathakul, who shot a seven-over 79 on Saturday, but still won by three shots, with a final line of 73-79--152 (+8). Post sophomore Clara Hosman used a three-over 75 to move up three spots and finish solo-second, at 80-75--155 (+11), while Adelphi junior Ilaria Ponziani finished third, at 79-79--158 (+14).
All five Franklin Pierce golfers were inside the top 10 after play on Friday, and all five would finish inside the top 11 when all was said and done on Saturday. In fact, the remaining four all came in one behind another, as sophomore Phisonlaya Ruayruen (Chiangmai, Thailand) took eighth at 83-83--166 (+22), senior Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was ninth at 79-88--167 (+23), senior Micaela Leandro (Harlingen, Texas) placed 10th at 86-82--168 (+24), and freshman Lorelai Flanagan (Arlington, Mass.) finished 11th at 86-85--171 (+27).
The low four scores of the day added up to a second-round 329 (+41) for the Ravens, who shot the tournament's two lowest rounds to post a runaway victory at 321-329--650 (+74). It was a chasm of 52 shots back to second place, where Le Moyne checked in at 355-347--702 (+126). The Dolphins narrowly edged out third-place Adelphi, which posted a 346-357--703 (+127).
It was the final pre-championship tune-up for the Ravens, who are the three-time defending Northeast-10 Conference champion. The NE10 Championship is set for Sunday and Monday, Oct. 16-17, at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass.
