READING, Pa. (January 21, 2018) – Following a two month break, the Franklin Pierce University women's bowling program hit the alley for the KU Invitational hosted by Kutztown University this past weekend at the Hiester Lanes.

The Ravens earned four wins and faced a tough schedule with a slate of seven nationally-ranked opponents. They placed 22nd with a total pinfall of 12,030 and an average of 185. On Saturday, FPU squared off against four top-10 programs and collected their only win of the day, an 896-822 victory versus no. 4 ranked Vanderbilt University. On Friday, FPU defeated no 18. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 975-928.

No. 2 McKendree University, Vanderbilt and no. 5 Sam Houston State University took home the top three spots.

Day One – Friday

The Ravens were 2-3 on Friday to improve to 23-21 on the season. The Crimson and Grey were in 22nd place with a total pinfall of 4,574 pins. McKendree University, Vanderbilt University, and Fairleigh Dickinson University hold the top three spots in the rankings.

FPU squared off against three nationally ranked opponents. They earned a 975-928 win in their first match of the day against Wisconsin-Whitewater. Their second win came against Bethune Cookman, an 896-800 decision.

Day Two – Saturday

The Crimson and Grey were 1-3 Saturday and evened their mark at 24-24 overall on the campaign. They remain in 22nd place after dropping a total of 9,250 pins. The Ravens lone win came in their first match of the day, an 896-822 decision against the Commodores, who ranked second in the field of 27 programs with a 10,309 total pinfall. McKendree University remains in the top-spot while Tulane University jumped three-spots into third place.

Sophomore Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.) was the Ravens best bowler on Saturday as she ranked within the top-50 individually with a 195.60 average and a pinfall of 978. In the victory over Vanderbilt, senior Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) led the way with a 203 frame. Peirce knocked home a 191 and classmate Alexa Asta (Hartland, Vt.) scored a 180. Asta racked up the best score of the day for the Ravens in the setback to Tulane with a 228 showing.

Against the bye, Peirce notched a 244 and Skyler Mulligan-Brown (New Milford, Conn.) tallied a 237 string.

Day Three – Sunday

In the best of seven game format, the Ravens nabbed only one win on the day, a 4-0 sweep of Medaille. They suffered two setbacks to Wisconsin-Whitewater, the last one a seven frame 4-3 defeat. The Ravens dropped 2,780 pins on Sunday.

The Ravens return to the lanes in two weeks for the Golden Bears Classic at the Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring, Pa.
