Franklin Pierce compiled a 7-2 mark across the two days as they dropped a total of 9,338 on the weekend. The Ravens were 3-2 versus nationally-ranked programs as they earned wins over no. 14 St. Francis (Pa.) University, no. 21 St. Francis (N.Y.) College and no. 25 Duquense University. On Saturday, senior Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading all Ravens with a 20.8 baker average.
Day One - Saturday
The format for Saturday was a five-game baker match which meant each team bowled five games and total pinfall is calculated to determine a winner. The Ravens earned two wins on the day defeating Saint Peter's, 1,057-819 and no. 25 nationally-ranked Duquense 1,012-977. Last year, the Crimson and Grey only recorded two 1,000 pin scores across the whole season. This year they achieved that feat in only their opening four contests. The two Pierce setbacks came at the hands of no. 24 nationally-ranked Youngstown State and no. 16 LIU – Brooklyn.
Franklin Pierce finished the baker game portion of the weekend in fifth place with a 4,792 total pinfall.
In the victory over Saint Peter's, the group of Katey Comstock (Hartland, Vt.), Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.), Kelly, Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.) and Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) rolled a day-high score of 259. The same bowlers notched a 257 in their win versus Duquense.
Day Two – Sunday
The Ravens were undefeated on Sunday at 5-0, but they finished in eighth place as they combined to knock down 4,546 total pins.
Peirce recorded the best score of the day for FPU in the 842-832 win versus Saint Francis (N.Y.) College. The sophomore tallied a Sunday high 224 as teammate Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) bowled a 182. In the upset victory against no. 14 St. Francis (Pa.) University, Brittany Hovan (Paramus. N.J.) and Davies led the Ravens to victory with high games of 212 and 208.
Hovan and Peirce recorded a second 200+ showing in the match against Howard University while leading their squad in average with 199.25 and 195.20 over the course of the day. Peirce had a hand in all five victories and her 746 total pinfall ranked as the 18th best mark individually.
Franklin Pierce travels to the Sacred Heart Bowl for the Cure next Saturday, October 21st hosted by Sacred Heart University at the Wallingford Bowl in Wallingford, Conn.
