Ravens Pull Out Road Win at Goldey-Beacom

Wilmington, D.E. (12/13/24) – The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team snapped a 7-game losing streak on Friday afternoon, sneaking past the Goldey-Beacom Lightning 62-58 in non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Ravens kickstarted their offense with junior guard Leana Heitmann (Syracuse, NY) drilling a 3-pointer, giving them the 3-2 lead. Graduate forward Colette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) then made a layup and a jumper to tie the score 7-7. She continued her hot streak with another layup to give the Ravens the 10-9 lead. Leana Heitmann added another bucket by nailing a jumper to put the Ravens up 11-10. Freshman forward Saga Tallroth (Stockholm, Sweden) and junior forward Laia Llorente (Madrid, Spain) converted back-to-back layups to give the Ravens the 15-14 lead in a tight first quarter. The Lightning ended the quarter with a layup and a free throw from Katie Yoder to give them the 17-15 lead.

The second quarter didn't treat the Ravens as kindly. The Lightning outscored the Ravens 14-9 in the quarter. Despite that, the Ravens started out strong as Colette Mulderig laid it off the glass for two and stuffed a shot for a block. She added another layup to make it a 20-19 Lightning lead. After a Lightning three, Leana Heitmann responded with a triple of her own to cut it down to 23-22 Lightning. Mulderig continued her hot streak by driving and scoring the deuce, but the Lightning countered with a mini 5-0 run to take the 31-24 lead into the halftime break.

The Ravens climbed back in the third quarter facing the 7-point halftime deficit. Colette Mulderig couldn't be stopped as she continued her tear by converting a layup to begin the quarter, cutting the deficit to five. The Lightning responded with another mini 5-0 run to take the 36-26 lead. After a timeout from the Ravens, they found their footing. Sophomore guard Geanna Bryant (Boston, Mass.) and Colette Mulderig each made layups to cut the deficit down to four. Then, Leana Heitmann laced a huge triple as the Ravens trailed by three. The Ravens outscored the Lightning 10-8 down the stretch as they trailed 44-43 to close out the third quarter.

The Ravens continued their hot shooting in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lightning 19-14 in the frame. They took the 45-44 lead in the early minutes from two free throws from junior forward Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.). Then, Leana Heitmann nailed another triple to go up 48-47 and Colette Mulderig added a layup to take the three-point lead. Geanna Bryant helped steer the ship as well as she connected on a three pointer to take the 53-49 lead. Mulderig shouldered her way inside for two and Leana Heitmann continued her dominance by swishing a three to take the 58-52 lead, their largest of the game. The Ravens closed the game strong and secured the come from behind 62-58 road victory at Goldey-Beacom.
