HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens came out strong, keeping pace with the Penmen in a balanced first quarter. Franklin Pierce relied on a collective scoring effort, with Leana Heitmann (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Colette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) leading the charge. The Ravens took the lead going into the second quarter with a 22-18 lead on a three-pointer from Heitmann.
  • In the second quarter, Southern New Hampshire found their rhythm behind three three-pointers from the Penmen. At halftime, they led by one 35-34.
  • Geanna Bryant (Boston, Mass.) made her presence felt early in the third quarter, converting a layup at the 9:44 mark to reclaim the lead for Franklin Pierce, 36-35. Heitmann followed with a jumper to make it 38-37, and Sara Macary (Naugatauk, Conn.) and Janessa Gonzalez (Meridan, Conn.) added key contributions to keep the game close. Gonzalez sank a crucial three-pointer late in the third quarter to bring the Ravens within five points, 45-50, heading into the final period.
  • In the fourth quarter, Mulderig and Gonzalez worked tirelessly to keep the Ravens in the game. Mulderig's consistent scoring in the paint and Gonzalez's timely three-pointer at the 48-second mark brought Franklin Pierce back within five, 50-55. However, Southern New Hampshire pulled away in the final minutes with clutch free throws and baskets from Abby Wager and Madison Hughes.
