Ravens Fall Short Against Caldwell in Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament Opener

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (11/16/24) - The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team fell on a late comeback from the Caldwell Cougars, dropping the game 54-46 in the 11th annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament.  

Score: FPU 46, Caldwell 54 

Records: FPU (1-3, 0-1 NE10), Caldwell (2-1, 0-0 CACC)  

Location: Hennessy Center, Orangeburg, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The first quarter started in favor of the Cougars as they went on a six-point run to go up 12-6 after the first quarter. Janessa Gonzalez (Meridan, Conn.) had two layups to get the Ravens on the board.  

  • Collette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) would bring the Ravens score up as she added three points in the first minute of the second quarter. That quarter would also end on free throws with Mulderig, going into halftime with a score of 31-24.  

  • The Cougars would start to break away in the third quarter as Lucy Coogan contributed multiple layups and free throws to continue to put the Ravens ahead. Gonzalez would score a layup right before the end of the quarter and would bring the score back within seven.  

  • Adriana Debernardo () hit a jump shot halfway through the fourth quarter to tighten the Cougars lead to 46-43. Demi Albon (Craigieburn, Austrailia) would score a layup and only create a one-basket differential. The Cougars, however, would not let the pressure impact the score and secure the win with a score of 54-46.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • The Ravens shot 75% from the free throw line (12 of 16).  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team continues play at the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dominican University. The Ravens play the hosts at 2 PM, Sunday.
