RINDGE, N.H. (January 17, 2020) – Franklin Pierce University women's basketball sophomore forward Izzy Lipinski (Farmington, Conn.) produced a career-high and match-best 28 points as the Ravens rolled to their first Northeast-10 Conference victory of the year displacing the College of Saint Rose 70-56 Friday evening at The Fieldhouse. With the win, the Ravens move to 7-9 and snap a four-game skid while the Golden Knights fall to 8-8 (2-7 NE10).

Lipinski was a force to be reckoned with in the low post going 14-of-16 (87.5%) from the hardwood with nine rebounds, a game-high six assists, and three steals. 16 of her points came in the second half. Her 28 markers bettered her previous best of 27 which occurred earlier this season at Stonehill College (12/4/2019). It was her third 20+ point game of the season and she currently has six straight contests in double-digits.

Junior guard Sophia Holmes (Oakland, Maine) joined Lipinski in double figures with 12 points of her own shooting 50% (5-of-10) from the field to go with four rebounds and two dimes. Sophomore guard Lisa Sulejmani (Burlington, Vt.) filled the box score with 11 points, five assists, four caroms, and three thefts.

For Saint Rose, Becca Townes scored a team-high 17 points while teammate Nina Fedullo double-doubled with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Franklin Pierce shot 54.4% in the contest compared to 42.3%. They also tallied 48 points in the paint as the Golden Knights produced 32.

As a team in the first quarter, Franklin Pierce was firing on all cylinders shooting 10-of-14 (71.4%) and a perfect 2-of-2 (100%) from beyond the arc while Lipinski opened her night with 10 points. Trailing 7-6, Pierce exploded for a 15-0 run to open up a sizeable 21-7 advantage. Lipinski hit on three field-goal attempts for six points in the spurt including a fast-break bucket off an Emma Carter (Bristol, Vt.) steal. Junior guard Demi Akins (Cambridge, Mass.) connected on a left-wing three-ball in the run as well. Lipinski ended the scoring dropping home a layup inside to put her team ahead 23-11.

Both teams were able to stay out of foul trouble early with only three infractions being called between the two squads in the first quarter. Two for the Golden Knights, and one for the Ravens.

The second quarter was much more even as both teams scored 11 points. The Ravens shooting success was stalled by Saint Rose as they went only 4-13 (30.8%). The Ravens defense stood tall though as they went into halftime up 34-22. One of two free throws off the stroke of Carter doubled up the margin 30-15 in the Ravens favor midway to halftime. Saint Rose came within 10 but trailed by 12.

Coming out of the break the Ravens started almost exactly the same way as the first quarter going on an 11-6 run before Saint Rose coach Karen Haag was forced to call a timeout after Rylee Skinner (Leominster, Mass.) dished the rock to Holmes on the wing to give the Ravens their biggest lead 45-28. The Golden Knights countered with a spurt of their own as a Takora McIntyre field goal put them down nine 51-42 with 1:59 left in the third.

The fourth quarter saw the Ravens put the icing on the cake with Pierce extending their lead to 14 points and not looking back as Lipinski was perfect from the floor with 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting.

The Ravens are back in action on Wednesday, January 22nd when they welcome NE10 opponent Southern Connecticut State University (7-9, 1-7 NE10) to the Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m. in the first leg of a doubleheader.
