RINDGE, N.H. (December 7, 2019) -- Despite strong performances by the duo of juniors Sophia Holmes (Oakland, Maine) and Izzy Lipinski (Farmington, Conn.), the Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team was handed a 79-60 loss by visiting Bentley in the Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. Holmes scored 15 points, while Lipinski added 14 points and six rebounds in the Northeast-10 Conference affair.

With the loss, the Ravens move to 3-5 (0-4 NE10), while the Falcons improve their record to 7-3 (3-0 NE10).

Lipinski, who finished with 14 points, carried the Ravens through the first quarter, when she chalked up seven points, three rebounds and an assist. However, she accounted for half the Franklin Pierce offense in the quarter, and the Ravens trailed 19-14 after the opening 10 minutes.

The Ravens were able to make it a one-point game with a three-point play by junior forward Freya Cooney (Woodbridge, England) with 3:12 to play in the second period. However, the Ravens were never able to even things up and would trail the rest of the way.

The third quarter would be the breaking point of the game, as the Falcons outscored Franklin Pierce 25-12 to take control of the game. Bentley was led by sophomore guard Kari Brekke, who added 10 points in the quarter. Bentley would grow their lead to 22, at 68-46, heading into the final quarter.

Brekke would finish with 20 points on the game, as did senior forward Monica Viapiano, as the duo combined to tally just over half of the team's offensive output.

The Ravens outscored the Falcons in the fourth quarter 14-11, though they were never able to mount a serious comeback. Holmes put home 10 of her 15 points in the final stanza.

For Franklin Pierce, Holmes tallied her team-high 15 points on 5-for-12 from the floor, including just 2-for-7 from three-point range. Lipinski added her 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting. As a team, Franklin Pierce shot under 50% from the field at 24-for-54, and just 22.2% from behind the arc (4-for-18). Lipinski led the team with six rebounds.

For Bentley, Brekke (6-for-11) and Viapiano (9-for-14) led four Falcons in double digits with their 20 points apiece. Brekke cashed in five of her nine three-point attempts on the afternoon. Graduate student guard Megan Lewis added 12 points on 4-for-5 from the floor, while sophomore guard Kolleen Bouchard struck for 12 points off the bench with a 5-for-7 shooting performance.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 14, when they remain home to host Cheyney in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. in the Fieldhouse.
