PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (January 10, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University women's basketball players Kelsey Mayo (Oakland, Maine) and Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) dropped nine points each while three other players added eight points apiece as the Ravens fell to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Pace University 84-54 Wednesday evening at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The win improves the Setters to 9-7 and 6-3 NE10 while the Ravens lost their 10th contest of the season and eighth league match.

Senior Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) was one of the three Ravens to score eight points. She led all FPU players with eight boards, two steals, and one block. Freshman guard Demi Akins (Cambridge, Mass.) and classmate Claudia Tucci (Trumbull, Conn.) were the other two players to produce eight markers.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Setters including four starters. Junior guard Alexandra Monteleone manufactured a game-best 20 points to go along with four caroms, two assists, and one block. Freshman forward Lauren Schetter recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, six which came on the offensive end.

The Ravens had issues with turnovers in the duel as they doubled up their counterparts in miscues (24-to-12). Pace, who ranked ninth in the region last week, cashed in those mistakes for 28 points. The Setters also had the better paint presence (42-to-26) and they kept possessions alive with 17 offensive boards, which led to 20 second chance markers.

Monteleone began the contest by rifling home a three-ball. Mosley followed that up with a driving two for the Ravens first points. The Setters tallied seven straight points via Schetter freebies, a Geena Rosalbo catch and shoot corner three from the left side and two more free throws from Monteleone. Mosley played catalyst over the Ravens next few possessions as she assisted on a Mayo layup, took a board coast-to-coast for an uncontested lay-in and drove from the top of the point through the right side of the Setters defense to make it a two-point duel at 10-8.

Monteleone stopped the Raven stretch of points when she buried a three from the top of the point as the Setters upped their edge to 13-8. With the Ravens down 19-10, following a timeout, a play was drawn up for Thacker who poured in a long-range attempt from the right wing. The Ravens got a stop on defense and Tucci dropped a bucket underneath the rack to make the score 19-15. Both squads swapped points to end the period as the Ravens trailed 21-17 after one.

Franklin Pierce made 7-of-9 (77.8%) of their attempts in the first quarter, however, they turned the rock over eight times which led to 11 points for the hosts.

The Ravens scored the opening points of the second quarter two minutes in after two offensive boards and a kick out to an open Akins on the left side for a wide open three-ball as FPU cut the deficit to one, 21-20. The Ravens continued their strong stretch of play in the second when Mosley ripped a loose ball way, ran down the court, passed to Freya Cooney (Woodbridge, England) who then dished the ball to Thacker at the top of the key for an easy three ball as FPU took their first and only lead 23-21.

A second chance and1 by Jackie DelliSanti, another Monteleone three-ball, a DelliSanti hoop and harm minus the free throw, a Schetter layup and two freebies Rosalbo capped off a run of 12 straight points which moved the Setters back in front 33-23. Tucci ran the floor and was rewarded with a layup to temporarily stop the run, but the Setters tallied four more points to increase their binge to 16-2 and the lead to 37-25. Franklin Pierce connected on two shots from the charity stripe and a steal by Thacker to Akins for two with four seconds left to head into the break down 38-30.

The Setters built their lead 16 points in the third quarter via a Monteleone lay-in at the 50-second mark. However, in the fourth stanza, the Setters began with a 12-2 binge to move ahead 70-43. They outscored the Ravens 28-13 in the fourth to seal the victory.

The Ravens return home to the friendly confines of the Fieldhouse for three straight home contests first beginning with conference opponent the College of Saint Rose on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
