Women’s Basketball Wins Second Straight Game, Defeats Felician 50-44

RINDGE, N.H. (November 25, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University women's basketball sophomore guard Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) tallied a game-high 14 points as the Ravens were victorious in their second straight contest, a 50-44 win against non-conference opponent Felician University Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse. With the win, the Ravens even up their record at 3-3 while the Golden Falcons fall to 2-2.

Mosley connected on 5-of-11 (45.4%) of her field goal attempts and was 4-of-4 (100.0%) from the free throw line. She came down with six rebounds and recorded two steals as well. Teammate Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) was the only other player to reach double-figures as she tallied 11 points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists. Diondra Woumn (Lynn, Mass.) corralled a game-high 12 rebounds and added five points on the offensive end.

Marya Trapp led the Golden Falcons with a team-best nine markers and 11 boards. Felician shot at a 23.2% (13-of-56) clip on the game while turning the ball over 24 times. However, their bench outscored the Raven reserves 31-to-11. The Raven's post presence was far too much for the guests to handle as they bullied the Golden Falcons 26-to-12 in points scored. The Crimson and Grey showed good ball movement as 10 of their 17 field goal conversions came off assists. They also never trailed in the duel.

Mosley opened the scoring with a second chance clean up from the low right block. Freshman guard Hannah Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) upped the lead to 5-0 by connecting on a catch and shoot trey from the left corner off a Sophia Holmes (Oakland, Maine.) feed. Senior forward Kelsey Mayo (Oakland, Maine) continued the hot start for the Ravens by corralling a pass from Holmes on the left block and blowing past her defender for an easy layup. Thacker increased the Raven edge to 10-0 early by knocking down a catch and shoot jumper with her foot on the three-point line. Thacker's make forced a Felician timeout.

Felician finally cracked the scoring column with 1:17 left in the first as Sophia Guerrier knocked down a pair of freebies from the line. Kameron Stone buried a long-range attempt from the left wing to cut the Golden Falcon deficit to 13-5. The Ravens concluded the period by making 4-of-4 (100.0%) from the charity stripe to up their edge to 17-5 after one.

The guests began the second quarter with six straight points until Mosley stopped the mini-run with a driving two from the right side. Treanda Foster made it a two-possession game by draining a jumper as the Golden Falcons trailed 21-15. Woumn increased the Raven advantage back to double-figures as she scooped a layup off the glass while being fouled. The senior forward converted her free throw as the Ravens led 26-16. Thacker capped off the half by knocking in a three-ball that took a friendly bounce off the rim and in as FPU held their largest lead of the first half, 29-16 at the break.

Felician shot only 17.2% (5-of-29) from the floor in the first half while the Ravens out produced their counterparts in the paint by a 12-to-4 margin.

In the third, the Ravens tallied six points to the guests two across the opening five minutes. Felician promptly hit two threes as Nicole Pimentel and Stone connected from deep to cut their squads deficit to 35-24. Following a Raven timeout, Stone buried a jumper from the elbow to continue the Golden Falcon run. The guests run of nine straight markers ended when freshman forward Claudia Tucci (Trumbull, Conn.) was fouled and sank one-of-two from the line. Thacker ended the quarter with another buzzer-beating trey this time off a skip pass from Mosley as the Ravens lead climbed to 40-27.

The guests began fast notching four in a row to start the fourth quarter. Mayo gained one of those points back with a second chance turnaround lay-in from the right block. At the 4:35 mark, Roz Johnson corralled a pass on the left block and went up for two while being hacked. Johnson's three-point play cut the Golden Falcons deficit to seven, 44-37. Thacker answered back with an and1 chance of her own but missed the freebie as the Raven edge grew to 46-37.

Under two minutes remained when Trapp hit a three from the right wing to bring her squad within six, 48-42. Felician forced a shot clock violation on the Ravens with a minute to play. Guerrier missed a jumper, but then came up with a clutch steal to retain possession to the Golden Falcons. Trapp was hacked down low and drained both from the charity stripe to make the score 48-44. Felician was forced to foul as the Ravens made two at the line to hang on for a 50-44 victory.

The Ravens return to the hardwood on Monday when they host non-conference opponent Post University at 5:30 p.m.
