Kara Charette's Double-Double Led the Way For Women's Basketball in a 66-54 Victory over Southern New Hampshire
RINDGE, N.H. (December 3, 2014)- Junior forward Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) posted a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while two other Ravens were also in double figures Wednesday night at the Fieldhouse. Franklin Pierce women's basketball had a 66-54 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference play. The women's basketball team remains undefeated on their home court.
With the win, Franklin Pierce improves their record to 3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play, with a 5-2 record overall. Southern New Hampshire falls to0-4 in Northeast-10 standings, with an overall record of 3-5.
Franklin Pierce held the lead until 3:22 in the first half of the game when a layup from freshman Catherine Stinson tied the game 25-25. Southern New Hampshire took the lead briefly off of a free throw by junior Erin Doherty, but freshman Diondra Woumn (Lynn, Mass.) would regain the lead, 27-26, with a jumper. Freshman Olivia Conrad would tie the game up within the last thirty seconds of the half, tying the game 28-28.
Kara Charette had 12 points on the board, with seven rebounds at the half, while Stinson had eight.
Within the first few minutes of the second half, the Penmen took the lead with a foul shots by senior Brooke Springfield, 30-28 with 17:39 on the clock. The Ravens would regain the lead with a layup by junior Natalie Bastian (Branford, Conn.) with 16:33 to play, 32-31.
A three-pointer by junior Dyamond Gardner (Cambridge, Mass.) would give the Ravens a 13-point lead, 56-43, with 4:29 left in the game. However, with just under three minutes to play, the Penmen would come within eight points of the Ravens, 58-50.
With a layup by graduate student Victoria Wiseman, the game would come within eight points with under thirty seconds to play, but free throws by graduate student Kate McDonald (Fall River, Mass.) and Natalie Bastian, the Ravens would win by 12, 66-54.
Brooke Springfield and Victoria Wiseman each had 10 points and four rebounds. Lorreta Rocha had nine points and three steals, which Erin Doherty contributed seven rebounds.
Kara Charette posted a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Dyamond Gardner had 18 points and three assists. Natalie Bastian posted 12 points and Kate McDonald had seven assists and six steals.
The Ravens travel to Saint Anselm this Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference matchup against the Hawks.
