Women’s Basketball falls 73-62 to Undefeated Stonehill

Easton, Mass. (November 25, 2014)- Franklin Pierce women's basketball falls to Stonehill College 73-62 at the Paula Sullivan Court Tuesday night on the road. Senior Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
This is the first Northeast-10 Conference loss for the Ravens bringing them to 2-1 in Conference and 3-2 overall. The Skyhawks remain undefeated 5-0, and 3-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Ravens and Skyhawks would battle until Skyhawks senior Ashley Gendron sank a three with just over nine minutes the play. The Ravens started out strong with junior Kara Charette's (Fairhaven, Mass.) layup and double free throw, 4-0, but it would not be enough to hold off the Skyhawks.
Senior Tori Faieta's jumper would give Stonehill a five-point lead, but junior Natalie Bastian (Branford, Conn.) would lessen the lead to four points, 16-19, with 6:26 to play. Raven sophomore Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) would bring the game to 26-21.
The Skyhawk's would go on a six point streak increasing their lead 32-21, but freshman Diondra Woumn (Lynn, Mass.) would not let the Ravens go down without a fight, scoring a layup with one second left in the first half, rounding the score out to 32-23.
Franklin Pierce's Hurd would post 5 rebounds; Skyhawk freshman Samantha Hyslip would post 6. The Ravens would be 83.3% from the foul line, making 5 out of 6 attempts.
Graduate student Kate McDonald (Fall River, Mass.) would come out strong for the Ravens with a three, followed by a layup by Hurd, lessening the gap 32-28. Charette would go on a four-point streak and give the Ravens the lead by 15:45. Senior Tori Faieta would take it back. 37-38.
Kelly Martin had 19 points and 9 rebounds, with Tori Faieta having 16 points, 4 blocks, and 6 rebounds.
Kara Charette was second half high scorer with 15 points in the half, and 19 overall, with 6 rebounds added to her stats. Jessica Hurd posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, with Kate McDonald adding 5 assists and 4 steals. As a team, the Ravens were 84.6% from the free throw line.
The Ravens return to their home court on Saturday, November 29th to play a non-conference game against Caldwell University.
