Franklin Pierce Superfans from Wrenn Middle School in San Antonio named "Most Spirited" by NCAA
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March
27, 2009) - Edgewood ISD middle schools enthusiastically
embraced the eight teams competing in San Antonio this week for the
NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship. The
teams were paired with different grades at each of the middle
schools. First, the schools hosted the teams at their
campuses for pep rallies. Then, the middle school students
attended "their team's" games at Greehey Arena.
The middle school judged to exhibit the most spirit for its team
during the games was Wrenn Middle School whose students cheered on
Franklin Pierce, one of the teams in tonight's national title game.
Wrenn Middle School will receive a $500 donation and every
participating middle school will get 50 Wilson basketballs donated
by the NCAA.
The participating schools and their teams are: Wrenn Middle
School (Franklin Pierce), Brentwood Middle School , Truman Middle
School (Minnesota State Mankato) and Gus Garcia Middle School.
Franklin Pierce attended a "pep rally" at Wrenn Middle School on Monday, the day before the Elite Eight tipped off, and spoke about the importance of education, teamwork and sportsmanship. The team also stayed to sign autographs and has been most appreciative of the support Wrenn has provided this week.
