Ravens Split on Day 2 in Florida

VIERA, Fla. (3/15/25) - The Franklin Pierce softball team took on two more teams in Florida as they defeated the Post University Eagles, 7-5 and were overcome by Minn.-Crookston in extra innings.

Game 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Scoring would start with a two-run double by Post's Angelica Tompkins in the fourth inning, followed by Brooke Dickenson's RBI single and a fielder's choice from Alexandra Bisceglia to give Post a 4-0 lead.
  • The Ravensstormed back with a seven-run surge, highlighted by a two-run single from Maisie Lerette (New Gloucester, Maine) and back-to-back infield RBI hits from Kaylee Fraund (Marietta, Calif.) and Haley Bigwood (Athol, Mass.) to take a 6-4 lead.
  • Freshman Taylor Ellis (Crandall, Texas) provided a key insurance run with a sixth-inning double, capping Franklin Pierce's comeback.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Sophomore Kennedy Morris (Stafford, Conn.) locked down the win in relief, pitching 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts to secure the 7-5 victory.
  • The Ravens outhit the Eagles 14-10.
  • The Eagles committed two errors.

Game 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Golden Eagles took an early lead, scoring twice in the first and adding another run in the second to go up 3-0.
  • Franklin Pierce was able to respond in the fourth, as Hartenstein launched a two-run homer to left center, bringing the Ravens within one a 3-2.
  • Fraund delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth, scoring Delaney Duford (Concord, N.H.) to tie the game at 3-3.
  • The Ravens grabbed the lead in the eighth on the international tie breaker. Zoey Galindo (Lakewood, Calif.) started on second and was able to reach home for the 4-3 advantage.
  • The home team would get a chance to tie it up and would succeed as they tied the game at 4-4 on a fielder's choice.
  • A ninth inning double sealed the game for the Golden Eagles as they walked off with a 5-4 win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • Brooke Koehler (Surpise, Ariz.) suffered the loss, giving up 3 hits and two runs, none of which were earned and struck out three batters in her 6 innings in the circle.
  • The Ravens were outhit by the Golden Eagles 8-7.
  • The Golden Eagles committed two errors while the Ravens had one.
