Softball: Ravens Fall to SCSU in Opening Round of NE10 Playoffs, 13-3

RINDGE, N.H (4/30/2024) – After a doubleheader sweep four days prior, Franklin Pierce softball dropped a hard 13-3 loss to the Owls of Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday during the first round of NE-10 playoffs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Franklin Pierce struck first in the bottom of the third. Junior outfielder Bella Williams (Phoenix, AZ) had an RBI double, scoring senior pitcher Samantha Sylvester (Morris, CT).
• In the top of the fourth, the Owls scored eight runs to break open the game. Southern Connecticut State had six hits, three of which were extra-base hits. Franklin Pierce committed two errors.
• In the bottom of the fourth, senior catcher Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, MA) had a two-run home run for her eighth homer of the season to cut the Owls lead to five.
• In the top of the sixth, Southern Connecticut State had five hits on five runs. Graduate pitcher Jess Perucki, junior infielder Gabby Festa, senior outfielder Rachel Miller, and sophomore infielder Nadia Cestari each had two hits this evening. Junior first baseman Dominique DeLutri had three hits, two RBIs, and scored two runs. The Owls scored 13 runs in the final three innings, and they are headed to the second round of the NE-10 Playoffs to face off against Southern New Hampshire at Janet L. Ficke Field in Garden City, New York, at Adelphi University.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
• Senior pitcher Sabrina Gonzalez (Chandler, AZ) got the start and pitched 3.2 innings. She gave up five hits, six runs, four walks, and struck out three batters. Freshman pitcher Kennedy Morris (Stafford, CT) came in relief and pitched 0.1 innings. She gave up three hits, two runs, and struck out no batters. Sylvester pitched an inning in relief, gave up five hits, two runs, one walk, and struck out no batters. Freshman pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, ME) closed out the game and gave up one hit, no runs, one walk, and struck out no batters.
• SCSU outhit Franklin Pierce 14-6. The Ravens committed three errors.
• Six different players got a hit this evening for Franklin Pierce.
