Zemaitis, Briggs Named NE10 Pitcher and Rookie of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. (March 9, 2020) – Franklin Pierce University softball junior Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.) and freshman outfielder Alexis Briggs (Lockport, N.Y.) have been named the Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively the conference offices announced Monday afternoon. This marks the first time this season a Raven softball player has earned conference weekly honors.

Zemaitis appeared in three games for the Ravens including two starts helping her squad to a 10-1 record, the best start in program history. The junior went a perfect 3-0 across 14 innings with a 0.00 ERA, 23 strikeouts (11.50 K/7), and one complete game. In the Ravens 3-1 victory against Chestnut Hill, the right hander notched her first double-digit strikeout game with 10 punch outs. She came on in relief versus Brescia hurling three no-hit innings notching K's against eight of the nine batters she faced. It is the first Pitcher of the Week honor Zemaitis has earned during her time at Franklin Pierce.

Over the early stages of the season, Zemaitis has an unblemished 6-0 record with three complete games in 29 innings pitched. She amassed 42 strikeouts (10.14 K/7) and a 0.72 ERA, all of which leads the Ravens staff. In the conference, Zemaitis ranks second in wins, second in K/7, third in complete games, third in strikeouts and fourth in ERA.

Briggs played in four games during the Ravens trip to Myrtle Beach. The freshman outfielder slashed .600/.636/.700 with five RBI, one double, one run scored and one walk. Briggs was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in the 9-0 shutout of Eastern Mennonite with a double and two RBI. In the Ravens 4-3 win against Chestnut Hill, Briggs was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the Raven victory. The newcomer has hit a team-leading .462 across seven games this year, with a .467 OBP and .538 SLG.

The Ravens (10-1) hit the road for The Spring Games, an eight-game trip in Winter Haven, Fla. At the DiamondPlex starting this Friday with a doubleheader against Sioux Falls and Minnesota State Moorhead with first pitch scheduled for 2:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
