Franklin Pierce Rowing Competes in Worcester

M&WV4's both place third in runs against Amherst, Clark, Simmons and Connecticut College

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 8, 2009) - The Franklin Pierce men's and women's rowing teams both turned in third place finishes during a meet with Amherst College, Clark University, Connecticut College and Simmons College on Lake Quinsigamond over the weekend.

Franklin Pierce's men's varsity four placed third in its event, completing the 2000-meter sprint in 7:44.2, to finish behind winners Amherst (7:18.8) and second place Connecticut College (7:28.3) and ahead of Clark (7:59.4). Rowing for the Ravens was senior Josh Marker (Lockport, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) at stroke, junior Ian Randall (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) in the three-seat, junior Patrick Brosnan (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greely) in the two seat and junior Brett DiCrescenzo (Haddon Township, N.J./Camden Catholic) at the bow, with junior Alexandra Edwards (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce's women's varsity four also placed third in its event, completing the 2000-meter course in 8:52.1, to finish behind winners Simmons (8:32.0) and second place Connecticut College (8:39.1) and ahead of Clark (9:57.8). Rowing for the Ravens were senior Cassandra Ela (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) at stroke, sophomore Brigit Arell (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) in the three-seat, sophomore Mairecait Binienda (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) at two-seat and freshman Lesley Cutting (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) in the bow, with senior Jessica Ward (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce returns to the water on Saturday when it participates in the Vermont Cup in Burlington.
