Ravens finish sixth in its semifinal race this morning

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (May 9, 2009) - Franklin Pierce University's women's varsity four saw its season come to an end in the semifinal heats of the 2009 Dad Vail National Regatta on the Schuykill River this morning. The Ravens had advanced with the ninth-fastest time, out of 34 crews, in Friday's time trails.

Franklin Pierce finished sixth in the third of three semifinal heats early this morning, completing the 2000-meter course in 8:12.306. Amherst College won the heat with a time of 7:38.628 to advance to this afternoon's grand final along with The College of William & Mary (7:40.795) from the third heat. Rowing for Franklin Pierce were senior Cassandra Ela (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) at stroke, sophomore Brigit Arell (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) in the three seat, sophomore Mairecait Binienda (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) at the two-seat and freshman Lesley Cutting (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) in the bow, with senior Jessica Ward (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) as the coxswain.

Bowdoin College won the grand final later in the day with a time of 7:49.378 over the 2000-meters to finish ahead of Nova Southeastern University (7:56.392) and William & Mary (7:57.384).
