Cross Country: Ravens Host 11th Annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup, Summa Grabs First Place Finish

HOPKINTON, NH (10/13/2023) – Competing on their home course over the weekend, Franklin Pierce University's cross-country program rang in the 11th annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup with much to celebrate.
The course, which will host the 2023 NCAA Regional Championships welcomed nearly 200 runners from nine different institutions.
Men's 8k Race:
The men's team earned runner up at this year's competition with a combined 2:07:53 time and a 25:34 average. Individually, junior runner Wondu Summa earned his second 1st place finish of the season after he crossed the finish line in 25:07.4 which breaks down to a speedy 5:03.2 average. Heading towards the finish line, Summa offered high-fives to fans as he was a full 11 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Two other Franklin Pierce runners made the top ten including junior Ryan Outerbridge (Paget, Bermuda) and senior Tad Darrah (Thetford, Vt.) who earned 6th and 8th place.
Another notable Raven runner is Angel Mendo Alonso (Málaga, Spain) who was the first freshman to finish the race after he grabbed 13th place.

In the women's division, Franklin Pierce placed fifth overall in the 5k race. Junior runner Meghan Sheline (Southington, Conn.) shined brightest for the Ravens after she grabbed 14th place individually with a 20:02.3 finish which breaks down to a 6:26.9 pace. Senior runner Saylee Missell (Stafford Springs, Conn.) was the teams second highest finisher after she earned 22nd place.
