Everidge Wins Shot Put, Men’s Track & Field Takes Fourth at Fitchburg State
FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 9, 2022) -- Junior Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) won the shot put on Saturday, to lead a bevy of point-scoring throws for the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team, which was in action at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State.
The Ravens collected 72 points on the day, which was good for fourth place in an 18-team field. Southern Maine took first place with 124 points, while host Fitchburg State was second (106 points) and St. Joseph's (Maine) took third (75 points).
It was a limited squad in action for Franklin Pierce on Saturday. In the only track action for the team on the day, freshman Quintin McDaniels took 27th in the 100 meters (13.35).
All the rest of the team's participation, and all of its point-scoring performances, came in the field events. In the pole vault, sophomore Connor Nordmann (Bethel, Conn.) cleared 3.95 meters to take second. In the long jump, it was a 15th-place finish for freshman Ethan Pho (Stoneham, Mass.), with a leap of 5.08 meters.
The Ravens piled up the points in the throwing events. The crimson and grey had four score in the shot put, as Everidge took first (14.35m), and was followed by senior Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) in third (13.65m), sophomore Sal Lando (Sterling, Mass.) in fourth (13.50m) and senior Armani Mette (Randolph, Mass.) in eighth (12.39m). Outside of the points in the event were juniors Victor Da Silva (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in ninth (12.08m) and Dom Norris (Thurmont, Md.) in 15th (10.35m).
Much of the same cast of characters was in action in both the discus and the hammer as well. It was four scorers in the discus too, as Everidge again led the way, in third (39.42m), and was followed by Albee in fourth (38.60m), Lando in fifth (36.60m) and Mette in seventh (35.79m), while Norris took 13th (29.31m). In the hammer, Everidge in second (47.57m), Lando in fourth (44.66m) and Albee in fifth (38.93m) all scored, while Da Silva took ninth (30.20m). Sophomore Brogan Bonsaint (Somersworth, N.H.) rounded out the throwing performances by taking second in the javelin (57.86m).
The Ravens will be involved in a pair of meets next weekend, as they travel to Connecticut College on Friday, April 15, and Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, April 16.
