"Minors: USATF Meet Will Be A 'Career Highlight'" - Bernews (by Stephen Wright)
DEVONSHIRE, Bermuda (April 8, 2022) -- Franklin Pierce University men’s track & field alum Dage Minors ’17 will take the biggest stage yet in his career on Saturday, when he runs in the 1500 meters at the Bermuda Games, to be held at the BDA National Sports Centre in his native Bermuda. The Bermuda Games will be broadcast live on NBC, with Minors’ 1500-meter race set to commence at 3:13 p.m.
The Bermuda Games are the opening event of the United States Track & Field’s (USATF) 2022 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series. Per the USATF, the series “serves as the strategic roadmap to drive competitive excellence and increase engagement in the lead-up to the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games.” Competitors from more than 20 countries will be on hand to compete in 15 events.
For Minors, it represents the next step in his career, which was previously highlighted by an appearance in the 2019 Panama Games and 2021 Bermuda national titles in the 1500 and 800. A six-time All-American in the 800 meters at Franklin Pierce, Minors will have his sights set on Bermuda’s national record in the outdoor 1500 meters on Saturday. His personal best of 3:45.63 is less than four seconds off the record of 3:41.97, set by Terrance Armstrong in 1998. A time of 3:45.00 or better would meet the qualifying standard for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in England this summer.
Minors is already Bermuda’s national record-holder in the indoor 600, 800 and 1000, all of which he set while competing for the Ravens.
It will be the first time on the national television stage for Minors, as NBC will air the Bermuda Games as part of their ongoing coverage of Olympic events in the run up to the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 11-runner 1500-meter race will feature 2022 Olympian Amos Bartelsmeyer, of Germany.
