Rawson Topples School Record; Track & Field in Action at BU Last Chance Qualifier

Zach Emerson and William Rawson

BOSTON (February 28, 2020) -- The Franklin Pierce University track & field team had select athletes in action at the Boston University Last Chance Qualifier on Friday. The meet served as a final chance for athletes to post times for the indoor season.

For the Ravens, the highlight of the day came in the 5k, where graduate student William Rawson (Atherton, England) broke the oldest program record on the books. Rawson's time of 14:46.08 was good for 17th place and lowered a record set by Antoine Gisore on Feb. 22, 2013, in the program's inaugural season.

Elsewhere, the Ravens had multiple runners in action in the 800, where junior Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) took 10th for his 1:49 time. He was accompanied by senior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.), who took 36th in the event for his 1:57 time. On the women's side, sophomore Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) took 42nd for her 2:21 time.

For the men, in the mile, senior Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) took 82nd for his 4:31 time. Behind Rawson in the 5k was sophomore Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.), who took 27th for his 15:13 race. Sophomore Aaron Young (Colchester, Conn.) cleared 4.2 meters to claim fourth in the pole vault.

For the women, in the 500, freshman Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) took fourth for her 1:17 time. For the high jump, sophomore Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) took first place for her 1.65-meter mark. Freshman Julieth Nwosu (Brockton, Mass.) threw 12.08 meters in the shot put to take second.

The field for the NCAA Championships will officially be announced at ncaa.com on Tuesday evening. Arlabosse and Brena have both already qualified by virtue of meeting the automatic qualifying standards during the season. The national championships will be contested on March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala.
