Men’s Track & Field Collects Pair of Medals on First Day of NE10 Championships

Men's track & field Northeast-10 Championship medalists

BOSTON (February 20, 2020) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team opened the two-day Northeast-10 Conference Championships, held at the Reggie Lewis Center, with a  pair of All-NE10 performances on Thursday. The distance medley relay squad took second to pick up silver medals, while graduate student William Rawson (Atherton, England) added a bronze-medal finish in the 5000 meters.

In all, the Ravens had three scoring performances on Thursday, to pick up 15 points on the first day of the meet. In addition, three runners are through to event finals on Friday, where they will be assured of points as well. Franklin Pierce is currently sixth out of 10 teams.

The distance medley relay team picked up eight points for their second-place finish after a 10:15 race. The group consisted of sophomore Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.), senior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.), senior Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) and junior Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France).

Meanwhile, Rawson chalked up six points with a 15:03 time in the 5k, which led to a third-place finish. Sophomore Aaron Young (Colchester, Conn.) tied for seventh in the pole vault with a 4.06-meter vault, to add one point.

Young is also a threat to score on Friday after the heptathlon finishes. Through four of the seven events, he is ninth, with 2287 points, which leaves him just one spot out of scoring position. Young is 86 points behind eighth place. In Thursday's heptathlon events, he finished seventh in the high jump (1.76m), ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (7.55), 10th in the long jump (6.12m) and 14th in the shot put (8.29m).

There were also three Franklin Pierce runners who used Thursday's preliminary heats to punch their ticket through to Friday's finals. In the 400-meter dash, Guay was the sixth-fastest qualifier with his 49.56-second time. In the 800, Arlabosse qualified second for his 1:55 performance. In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Sekou Veillard (Davie, Fla.) qualified fourth with a time of 8.61 seconds.

The Ravens had numerous other athletes in action on Thursday as well. In field events, sophomore Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) took 14th in the weight throw for his 12.08-meter throw. He was followed by freshman Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) in 15th after his 11.89-meter throw. Sophomore Kevin McCree (Mansfield, Mass.) also competed in the event, as he threw 11.32 meters to claim 18th. Meanwhile, in the long jump, freshman Harchdy Souffrance (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) took 19th for his 6.09-meter jump, while junior Lo Jackson (Columbia, S.C.) cleared 1.71 meters in the high jump to claim 10th.

In the springs, sophomore Ethan Pezzullo (Bristol, R.I.) post a 7.53-finish in the 60-meter dash to finish 15th. He was 15th in the 200-meter dash as well, after a 23.38-second run.

Behind Arlabosse, senior Walker John (Boscawen, N.H.) also competed in the 800, where he took 14th for his 2:01 race. Behind Rawson in the 5k, senior Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) took 15th for his 15:53 finish, and he was followed by freshman Zach Aham (Nottingham, N.H.) in 16th after a 15:59 race. With a 16:03 finish, junior Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) finished in 17th in the event, while junior Ryan Ducrow (Amesbury, Mass.) ran a 16:24 race to take 23rd.

The NE10 Championships will conclude on Friday at Reggie Lewis Center.
