Pierre-Canel Goes Big on Final Day of Penn Relays; Men’s Track & Field Third at RPI

PHILADELPHIA (April 29, 2017) – On the final day of the storied Penn Relays, junior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) turned in a personal best to post a top-10 finish in the triple jump at historic Franklin Field. Meanwhile, the majority of the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team was in Troy, N.Y., for the Capital District Classic, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Ravens also fielded a 4x800-meter relay team at the Penn Relays.

Pierre-Canel turned in a personal-best hop, skip and jump of 14.32 meters in the triple jump, meeting the NEICAAA Championships qualifying mark in the event. It was good for a ninth-place finish at the Penn Relays and currently ranks second in the Northeast-10 Conference, as well as third in the East Region.

Also at the Penn Relays, the Ravens were the top Division II finisher in the 4x800-meter relay. A team of senior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.), junior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.), junior Adam Bryson (Lynn, Mass.) and senior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) put together a time of 7:41.88 to finish 15th. The time is the fastest in the NE10 so far this spring.

Meanwhile, at the Capital District Classic, the rest of the Ravens were busy piling up 99 points and a third-place finish out of nine teams. A pair of wins on the track highlighted the day's scoring for Franklin Pierce, as junior Martin Gradijan (Lebanon, N.H.) won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:56.02 and freshman Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) won the 400-meter hurdles in 55.17 seconds. Gradijan's time was good for sixth in the NE10 and eighth in the East Region on the year.

Elsewhere, senior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) turned in a time of 56.81 seconds to finish third behind Guay in the 400-meter hurdles. The time moved Cataldo into seventh in the NE10 in the event.

Other notable marks on Saturday for the Ravens included sophomore Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) finishing third in the high jump (1.85m) and senior Mark Josselyn (Halifax, Mass.) placing eighth in the hammer throw (47.00m).

The Ravens return to the track on May 5-6, when they travel to the Northeast-10 Championships, to be hosted by American International College in Springfield, Mass.
