Gisore takes third in 800

Minors Minors won the 800 meters on Saturday at AIC.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 5, 2014) – Freshman Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) ran a 1:55.98 to win the 800 meters on Saturday for the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International. The event victory garnered 10 points for the Ravens, who finished ninth in the 20-team meet, with 31.5 points.

Minors' time in the 800 was 2.5 seconds off of his best indoor time, setting him up to surpass that mark before the outdoor season is done. He had company near the top of the event, as junior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) finished third with a run of 1:56.59, which was less than two seconds off his best indoor time and picked up eight points for Franklin Pierce.

For Gisore, the 800 at AIC was his second run of the weekend, as he also made a trip to the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton to run in the 1,500 meters on Friday. He ran a 3:57.88 at Princeton to finish 12th in a field laden with Division I talent. The mark was just under five seconds off his top indoor mark.

Back at AIC on Saturday, sophomores Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) and Sharaj Prince (Roseau, Dominica) each posted top-five finishes as well for the Ravens. Ham took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:53.53). The time ranks second in the Northeast-10 on the young season and earned six points for Franklin Pierce. Prince tied for fifth in the discus (37.00m) to pick up 3.5 points.

Freshman Christian Barbosa (Union, N.J.) and sophomore Mike Frappier (Concord, N.H.) also both picked up points in the steeplechase to round out the point-scoring on the day for Franklin Pierce. Barbosa took seventh (10:37.35) for three points, while Frappier finished ninth (10:56.38) for one point.

Elsewhere on Saturday, sophomore Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) finished 11th in the javelin with a throw of 52.42 meters, which ranks fifth in the Northeast-10. Freshman Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed 13th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.37, which ranks sixth in the Conference.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, April 12, at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by University of Massachusetts Lowell.
